Nobody pays anything, but everyone receives something
It is a volunteer network
that promotes mutual aid
in an organic farm setting
It is called WWOOF
which means "World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms"
This organization is creating a new paradigm
based on goodwill in more than 60 countries
On one side there are organic farms
willing to receive people
and on the other, volunteers from around the world ready to help
Any volunteer can offer help
in exchange for accommodation, food and a learning opportunity
Organic farming, when compared to conventional farming
(which I prefer to call "chemical" farming)
is a system that causes much less impact on the environment
Volunteering is a way of escaping the cycle
of labor and capitalism
... and volunteers may be more independent from the economical system
... than a standard worker
WWOOF promotes a sustainable lifestyle
based on community values and knowledge sharing
At this farms become possible to live with respect for nature
Apart from organic farming,
hosts develops other means of livelihood
such as permaculture,
green building
and renewable energy
Everybody helps and support these projects
...it is about fedding yourself
it is about finding a place to sleep
it 's about being independent
... and... take care of yourself
and people around
The most important is the company
to have the WWOOFers around
to have a good time, to enjoy this place,
to share common projects we are doing together.
... and of course they help me a lot,
otherwise it would be impossible
WWOOF is a bilateral volunteering
On one hand the hosts receives extra help on the farm,
and on the other, the volunteers gain with their own experience
knowledge about self-sufficiency and ecology
In this exchange people improve themselves,
and together, improve the world
My wife, Dania was also a WWOOFer.
She came as a volunteer and we got to meet each other...
... and we have a little Joana now
and 'm very happy with this one.
