JEFF MAURER: Fresh Madison Market is located on the
corner of University Avenue and Lake Street.
I've been in the business my whole life.
I started out as a bag boy.
And I have three daughters, who all recently graduated
from college.
And they lived off campus.
And I watched them struggle to find good, healthy food at an
affordable price.
That's really where the motivation came from, thinking
that the students here, especially, were
lacking that service.
KRISTIE MAURER: Jeff is my dad.
And it's a family business.
It's not trying to be anything other than a grocery store in
a market where people like fresh quality products.
We have thousands of students that walk past our door on a
day to day basis.
JEFF MAURER: We've had to figure out a way to
communicate and connect to the student base.
And we knew that the website was going to be extremely
important in this marketplace, based upon the demographic
information we had.
KRISTIE MAURER: We kind of geared our website towards
making it simple, functional, easy to use, and not
overwhelming.
Click here, little drop down box, and bam, information is
right at your fingertips.
JEFF MAURER: A customer can order online.
They can start an order, hold it, come back to it later.
As far as I know, we're the only store in town that can
offer that tight of a shopping experience.
KRISTIE MAURER: We find that our customers who are trying
to figure out whether we're the right place and the right
value want to just go on the website.
So we're trying to make it a one click shot for people to
see that we're not very expensive and we're
easy to deal with.
JEFF MAURER: If Fresh Madison Market didn't have a website,
I don't know how we would communicate to those people
that don't see our weekly ads.
To be in this market and not have a really strong website
presence would be extremely concerning to me.
I think we're doing a better job of explaining to the
customer what we do in the store, how
we support the community.
To work with these students is just a
tremendous amount of fun.
They ask a lot of questions.
They want to learn how to cook.
As a dad, I get to say that I have an opportunity to help
these kids begin their lives a little healthier.
