>> I have been looking for this rotation all year long.
I've only been in my surgery rotation for a week
and I could already say it's probably been the best 5 days
of my third year in medical school, so I'm really happy
to be doing what I love to do most.
It's a huge benefit being here for a third and fourth year;
being at this Athens campus
where you don't have this barrier of intern-resident,
between you and the physician.
I think that we have been able to benefit greatly
from being first in line to do procedures;
to get hands-on experience.
I think that I retain most once I do it and I see it
and I'm there and I'm involved.
>> That was pretty awesome.
That was a lot of fun.
That's the first time I've seen a carotid stent before
and that was the first time I was given the chance
to get arterial access and so I was glad
that went really, really well.
Dr. [inaudible] is awesome; he lets you do a lot.
I mean this is my second week working with him.
The fact that he let me do so much in the first surgery today
and in the second one, it's awesome.
And he's a good teacher.
I mean he's got years and years of experience.
You can't learn that from reading a book; you can only get
that from working directly with him and...
>> Nothing beats hands-on.
You can read, but until you see it and do it,
it's still a completely different game.
The students have definitely...they push our game.
They're inquisitive; they ask questions
so they make us stay on top of what we do.
It's good for us, I think it's good for them,
and I think it's good for patients.
I think it's a great thing.
I think it's good the Medical School is here
and I think it will be good one day when guys
like here are residents one day walking around in this hospital.
