My name is Gabe, I'm a field coordinator with Canvass for a Cause. Welcome to Canvass for
a Cause, we're a local grassroots LGBT organization. We work on LGBT issues like anti-bullying
but we also view our struggle through a lens of intersectionality. Because *** people
can be found in all sectors of society, we see our struggles intimately linked with the
broader fight for social justice. We are workers, we are people of color, we are immigrants,
we are regular people.
Because of this, we recognize and strongly reject pinkwashing. The conversation tonight
is to raise awareness of the use of our community to distract people from exploitation and abuses
of corporations and state governments. We're here tonight in recognition of the 65th anniversary
of the Nakba, or Day of the Catastrophe, the annual day of remembrance of the ethnic cleansing
of Palestinian people from their land following the Israeli Declaration of Independence 1948.
And before I introduce our fabulous speakers, I'd like to say that this coming Wednesday
is actually Nakba Day and at 4:30-7:00pm at the Federal building downtown, which is Broadway
and Front Street, there will be a big demonstartion. Also, at the end of the presentation, we'll
have time for questions and discussion.
So thank you guys so much for coming and I'll introduce you to our speakers:
Sara Giordano is a part of the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network and organizer
with the San Diego Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, or BDS. and has been involved
in ***, feminist and anti-racist organizing for the past decade. Speaking of BDS, there
is a sign-up sheet going around to get more information about the local BDS movement in
San Diego.
Nasser Barghouti is on the Board of Directors of the ACLU San Diego and Imperial Counties,
President of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination League and also an organizer with San Diego
BDS.
So I'd like to welcome our speakers, let's clap for them *clapping*
