Erika: What are the odds that this will happen to me?
Angelica: When I see a Latina who is pregnant and is a teen, I feel really sad because I know
that it is really hard for her, especially being a Latina.
Steven: I think I see too many Latinas getting pregnant at a young age.
Samuel: They don’t understand the risk of having sex.
Angelica: It shouldn’t be that high. I mean, that’s more than half.
Erika: I think we should change that.
[Teens’ voices discussing their friends getting pregnant.]
Angelica: Society does not expect anything of Hispanic youth. They think that we’re nothing, that we can’t do anything.
Erika: I think they kinda expect us to fail.
Samuel: To be the trouble makers.
Erika: That we have no education. That we’re not smart.
Angelica: We just get pregnant, and that we’re all gangsters, and it’s not true. It’s not true at all.
Erika: I would like society to expect more from us.
Angelica: And we’re going to show them.
Erika: You know when you are surrounded by Latinos, because you feel so warm and like you feel so welcomed.
Maria: The food.

Christhian: Siento mi raza en mi.
Angelica: I am very proud to be a Latina because I feel like I can do anything,
I feel as if I am strong and independent. And I’m proud, I’m proud to have dark brown hair.
I’m proud to have dark brown eyes. I’m proud of my skin color. And it makes me feel like
I can do anything, and that I can achieve anything. And that I can accomplish anything.
Christhian: ¡Soy muy intelligente, y yo soy Latino!
Angelica: As a Latina, I really believe that if you want to do something, just strive for it.
And that you can do anything you want. Or whatever your heart desires you can achieve.
Maria: I have so many dreams and so many goals that having a baby, it’s really not part of it.
Andrea: I am definitely not ready for a kid right now.
Samuel: It takes away your youth.
Maria: This is our time to enjoy our lives.
Erika: I would have to put my life on hold.
Maria: If you don’t finish college, if you don’t finish high school- what are you going
to tell your son? What are you going to tell your daughter? That you’re a dropout?
Christhian (Off Screen): Tenemos que hacer unos cambios.
Angelica: We can be smart. We can be independent. We can make great choices.
Erika: We can think about ourselves and our future.
Maria: I am young and I want to live my life. I want to reach my goals.
I want to be someone in life.
Angelica: We can make whatever choices we want.
Erika: Figure out who you are and what you want to be.
Maria: Your future comes first.
Andrea: Te cuides.
Erika: Be strong.
Andrea: You are important. You are valuable.
Erika: Seguir con tu vida.
Angelica: Having a baby and being a parent is the most important thing you can do.
Christhian, Age 17: Look, we are young.
Erika: Give yourself some time-
Maria: To have a career. To discover your passions for life and for your future.
Angelica: Teen pregnancy doesn’t have to happen.
Erika: It doesn’t.
Angelica: You.
Erika: You.
Christhian: You- Do not have to be a stereotype.
