My name is Gerald Lauzon. I have been second cook on the Samuel Risley for 13 years.
I am responsible for making cookies and salads and helping the chief cook.
My job consists partly of administration and cooking on the ship.
A memorable moment with the Coast Guard was when I was in the Arctic with the Griffon.
We saw all the icebergs and belugas. The sailors and officers went into the water to play with the belugas
belugas in the Churchill River. It was really fantastic.
So there are a lot of moments like that. There is also the pride in wearing the uniform and pride when we have open house days.
Many people know what we do and are very happy for what we give them
and for what we are doing for our country. In the Coast Guard you meet a lot of people.
It’s a little family. Since you work on all sorts of vessels
at first you end up knowing a lot of people. Because you’ve been working with them for so long,
you’re with them 24/24, it’s your family.

The Coast Guard is more than a career. It’s an adventure!
