Hi, my name is Dave Andrews and today I'm going to explain to you what is Microsoft
Windows. Now Microsoft Windows is basically what you would refer to as an operating system.
That is a very large program that runs on your computer and it's tasked with the responsibility
of controlling all of the smaller programs that you run on top of your computer. Like
if you launch say Word, that's actually a program that is being controlled by Microsoft
Windows. There's other operating systems which would be you know like Macintosh is an operating
system and Linux is another operating system. So I'm going to show you a little bit of Microsoft
Windows and how you go about using it. So what you're seeing here is actually Microsoft
Windows Vista which is their newest version and it gets its name because if I launch a
computer program here by launching the computer icon, I get a window. Now this is basically
a window into that program and it's displaying me the output from that program. I can click
here the minimize button. As you can see that program is still running down here. I can
click on it and it will pull it back up. I can click the maximize button and that makes
that window to be full screen or I can hit the X and I can close that window out. Now
the beauty of Microsoft Windows and other modern operating systems is that I can have
multiple programs running at once and I can control them and drag them around and just
manipulate them through very simple windows. My name is Dave Andrews and I've just explained
to you what Microsoft Windows is.
