BR 463 Highway, Dourados Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil - 2013.
Here are the graves of our relatives.
My son is buried over there!
They were all murdered by gunmen of the farm.
Right over there!
But first, let's go to where my brother is.
We'll go there on the way back.
We've brought the body through.
Each one grabbed an edge,
while the plant thugs were right over there,
watching us from the highway.
We went through here up to the end.
"Martyrs"
This is your eternal resting place on earth.
Nature spirits have guarded you here.
Nature has guarded you here for eternity.
Father, we've reached the resting place of your children...
APYKA'I - Kaiowá refugee camp. - "We can't wait any longer!"
This is how the Guarani-Kaiowá feel
after being exiled and excluded for decades.
Completely helpless, Indians become martyrs
as they try to take their homeland back.
In face of this dramatic situation the Guarani-Kaiowá still live in, . . .
Vídeo nas Aldeias decided to join the wide solidarity network . . .
that has been built around their cause,
making a documentary film that could restore a historical truth,
how things ended up the way they are today.
Unraveling brazilian government's responsibility
for conducting, for more than 50 years,
a misguided policy of eviction and confinement of these Indians in small areas,
to then allot their lands among landowners.
Reestablishing the truth of the facts, the historical truth,
is utterly important,
opposing to the current mass media version of the story
that depicts Indians as invaders.
It's been more than twenty, almost thirty years, . .
this community is victim of all kinds of violence,
violent evictions. Meanwhile all this,
over 30 community leaders have been murdered in the last 30 years.
Secondly, equipping these camps with video cameras
is extremely important so they can record threats
and recurrent acts of violence,
continuously posting evidences on the web
acquainting the solidarity network aware of the Guarani-Kaiowá situation.
Our work adds up to other initiatives of the Brazilian society
and is being held in association with Aty Guasu,
the General Assembly of the Guarani-Kaiowá people,
the Federal University of Grande Dourados (UFGD),
the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG),
and Federal Prosecutors of Mato Grosso do Sul.
If we were equipped, trained, . . .
if we were prepared to show this situation, . . .
if we were prepared to show this situation,
I'm sure people would know
what is really being done against the Guarani-Kaiowá people.
We say this land is ours based on our History
and on its spiritual meaning to us.
Each grain of earth is made of flesh and bones of our ancestors.
It can't be in another place,
can't be in another state or in another country.
We can't live elsewhere it has to be this place.
Everybody knows this land is ours!
This land is ours!
This is why we're fighting for it.
We shaw never give up on this land.
And I'm not afraid!
I'm not!
