The act of not choosing models of colour is racist, so I'm not saying... We're not calling
them racist. We're saying that the act is racist, and I'm also saying they may not intentionally
know, but they do choose, they hire casting directors. They hire stylists, and they are
now the ones that choose the models, not so much the designer anymore. So it's not directly
the designer, but it does affect their house and their brand. Some of them have agreed
right to my face and said yes, we know. We agree with you. We're going to do it next
season, but next season comes around. It's back in the hands of the casting director.
It's back in the hands of the stylist, and they're busy doing their collection, which
happens, and they don't have the time and the act comes back again. What we are asking
for is that you are based on your talent, on your beauty, you should be able to have
and go up for a job. Not on the colour of your skin. We just don't... We don't want
it on a... when they make like a show, and they have okay this is the concept of this
show this season. No black girls. We don't want that. It shouldn't be that way. No models
of colour at all. I'm not lecturing. I'm pointing out facts and facts that are within the fashion
business that I know. I'm not going into another business that I don't know. I'm purely telling
you what I see, what I know within the business that I've been in for 28 years. I would never
dare go into something, speaking about something that I have no knowledge of. We feel passionate,
feeling passionate about something does not mean you have to be angry. We feel very passionate
that you care to want to know more about it, and as I've said to you, we're not accusing anyone
of being a racist. We're saying it's a racist act that some may be aware is happening, and
some may not be aware.
