My name's Aakomon Jones.
I go by AJ, and I choreographed the dance scenes
in The Rum Diaries.
We were in a club environment, so it had to have this very
sweaty, dark, sexy, organic feel to it.
And for most part, it was about telling a
story through the dance.
In this scene, Amber Heard, her character gets a little
out of control.
You know, everyone's drinking.
It's a lot of rum.
She kind of gets a little too comfortable, so to speak, with
the locals.
You can imagine that the one white, blonde
girl would draw attention.
There was choreography involved, but it was the kind
where you choreograph moves not to look choreographed.
Amber was very eager to get to the dance.
She definitely is comfortable in her own skin.
There's definitely a Latin influence, an Afro-Cuban vibe
throughout the film.
On set, we only had a couple dancers
sprinkled through the extras.
It was a period piece.
So it was the late '50s, early to mid '60s,
where this took place.
So that was a bit of a challenge, to keep people
looking like the time as opposed to looking like what
they do naturally in these times.
Go check it out October, 2008-- you won't be
disappointed.
