I think they deserve an applause, don't they?
Well, his is the view I have from my desk where I work everyday
I feel privileged for it.
It's really a privilege to live in a place that enjoys 300 sunny days a year,
which has a university 5min from the beach,
and an airport that allows us to reach cosmopolitan places for just 20 €.
But every time I go to one of those places what I want is to return
So I can have this sight when landing again here at Faro.
It's easy to be in love about Faro!
For the unique orange light of our dusk,
our golden sand beaches...
In short, those things only who lives here knows...
And sometimes we need to go abroad to value and miss what we left here.
Well, but I'm talking about those simple things that we see
and, as they say, fill the eyes.
Those things that satisfy us by looking may seem very simple
are in fact a series of events that are not interconnected by chance.
Leonardo Da Vinci said "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
When we're at Castelo's terrace watching the sunset while having a drink,
That is actually the result of violent gas explosions
that emit light rays traveling nearly 300 million m/s.
Collisions of atoms occur releasing energy,
a gleam is generated in different shades then filtered by the atmosphere.
It is something complex and violent!
But we see a quiet sunset that generates a calming light.
And ... this is taking too long...
And the ecosystem that surrounds us, the Formosa Lagoon
where we like to go sightseeing and bring some seafood
also depends on a number of physical, chemical, biological phenomena
(someone can explain it better than me).
which are not by chance. They have a certain logic.
But because it happens close to people is getting spoiled.
It seems that where there are people there tend to be problems.
I saw it in Guatemala.
I love that country. It has the most beautiful natural landscapes
that my eyes have ever seen. But except for two locations that are
world heritage site. Tikal (here in the photo) and La Antigua
almost everywhere where there is human presence,
I mean villages, towns, cities,
are ugly, unorganized, polluted, dirty, some are unsafe.
Have problems!
Well, the cluster of people where we live is called Faro.
And Faro also has problems!
We can start by roads. Someday we need to have a jeep to live in this municipality
because there are so many holes. Specially in Santa Bárbara.
Mr Mayor, please do something.
But this is what we can see. And if what we see
and is the simplest is like this it means that what lies behind
and is more complex has to be worse...
I tried to searc some of the problems this county has
and consulting the town hall, the social report and the last census
we can notice that problems are not few and are not decreasing.
For example, the concept of the family is becoming increasingly degraded
it then degenerates into trouble in all directions: Education, health, economy and even government
both local and central.
Obviously not all issues affect us directly, but may affect the next door neighbor
who has a huge hole in the backyard and we remain immune.
Regarding immunity, I heard someone once say:
I do already pay my taxes those receiving it should recycle for me
and resolve all the other problems.
If we're hoping for the State, which is in crisis,
for the city council, which is near banckruptcy,
or the ONGs that are full handed take care of all... it might not happen much.
I believe that our action may help much and faster.
Initiative begins when we grab a paper or a can from the ground to put in the trash
or when the neighbor who's a single mother and needs someone to take care of her child
while working and our family gladly hosts him.
I'd like to see this county doing the same as Sintra.
The 2nd most populous county of the country has much more problems than us.
There are 2 families losing their home daily.
There is a huge rate of school failure... But that population
along with businesses, organizations, local institutions
decided to get to work and solve the social problems they have.
Big or small. Once I heard someone saying on this:
If I have two shirts and someone can't have any, I'll share with him.
Throughout the walls of our city we can read: "You're from Faro, you're Farense".
If we want to see our town as beautiful we must work in order o make disappear
what works behind to make it ugly.
Or that what prevents some people from enjoying the beauty of the city also disappears.
It's you face problems when you gain genuine compassion towards those who also suffer them.
Let it not be necessary to reach that point for the entire city to raise
and decide to roll up their sleeves to tackle the problems it has.
Thank you.
