You've just closed the acquisition with Mediaroom, how will you leverage this within Ericsson?
Ericsson's going to leverage this acquisition, which we're really excited about
to help us really transform the TV Anywhere, Multi-screen TV experience opportunity
for the pay TV service provider. So we were already on track with enabling those service
providers,
those Pay TV operators to really drive towards all screens, drive towards any screen,
multiscreen, get across all devices as quickly as possible, get far more agile on how they
deploy these types of services. One of the great aspects of Mediaroom is they're the
worlds #1 IP video delivery platform, over 60 customers delivering to nearly 24 million
set-top boxes
and 13 million subscribers, so a huge wealth of experience and talent in
the well over 450 people that are now Ericsson employees which we're
really excited about. So we'll really be bringing the best of all those elements together
to really be the ultimate transformation partner for our customers moving forward.
As you said, Mediaroom is the global #1 IPTV video platform -
is IPTV the future focus for Ericsson?
I'm going to give you a yes/no answer based on what we define as IPTV.
We fundamentally believe that IP is going to be absolutely essential in the future service
of TV.
Now that doesn't mean exclusively IP delivered user-experiences
content, linear and on-demand, we already are harnessing the best of
the broadcast delivery of content with IP content, but clearly if you want on-demand
services,
catch-up TV, you need to deliver those through IP. So what Mediaroom gives us is
huge huge experience in pure IP video delivery, as I said, we're really about enabling
all pay TV service providers, satellite, cable, terrestrial and of course telco to embrace
to create that ultimate TV experience through IP video delivery and broadcast video delivery.
What are your customers looking for from Mediaroom today and in the future?
We obviously get well over 60 brand-new customers with Mediaroom which is fantastic,
and so what are they looking for today and tomorrow is the ability to drive
huge efficiency in networks, as video transforms the way networks are being used, so
driving efficiency in video delivery & networks, and of course transforming
the TV experience for the consumer. So they need a one common, flexible, agile platform
to allow them to deploy new experiences, new services on any device, to all new devices
as they appear as fast as possible. What they're looking for us is to help them innovate
in their business, and drive against the competitive challenges and keep
their costs down as video dominates networks.
