[music] Hello, I’m Dr. Neal Schultz
[pause]
and welcome to DermTV.
Everybody’s always talking about lines and wrinkles. Why are they talking
about them? They recognize them, they have them, and they don’t want them.
Your dermatologist can help you get rid of these lines and wrinkles, make
you look better and make you look younger by using Botox or filler. Let me
explain the difference between Botox and fillers. Botox is used to make
lines go away that are caused by muscles or facial expression but muscles
that you don’t need. If I raise my eyebrows and cause horizontal lines, if
I frown and cause vertical lines that make me look sad or unhappy, those
muscles are doing nothing else for me, I don’t need them. Botox weakens
them and stops them from making those lines and wrinkles. Botox takes 3-7
days for 90% of the effect, up to 10 days or 14 days for 100% of the
effect, and it’s very easy to use. Fillers are different. Fillers are used
for lines that are there all the time, or for lines that are caused by
muscles that we need. We can’t afford to weaken certain muscles or facial
expression. For example, when I smile, I can’t afford to have that muscle
weaken. I want to be able to smile. Different lines have different
thicknesses. Thin fillers like collagen I use for fine lines. Thicker
fillers like Evolence or Juvéderm or Restylane I use for thicker lines, but
fillers, being different from Botox, have their effect immediately. Before
you leave the office, you see the full effect of the treatment. The
treatment can last 3 months, 6 months or even 12 months. I hope that helps
to explain the difference to you between Botox and filler.
