Becky: Hi, I'm Becky, I'm school administrator, and this is our outreach room.
We have lovely high ceilings and lots of light that comes into this room, and it is reflected
across the school, with all the different classrooms.
We also have a lot of specialist equipment in this room, and it's used as a model classroom
for parents, professionals, people coming in to do some training, and it's a really
great space for them to be able to experiment with some of the equipment that we use in
class.
Within the room, we've got overhead ceiling hoists, which is throughout all the classrooms.
We've also got our environmental objects of reference board, which is on the wall, and
you'll see these throughout the school.
These are on all the doors, and it's really a fantastic way of the students being able
to be prompted to where they are going, so they can feel the object, which is also then
represented on each of the doors of the classroom.
OK, we're at class 1.
All of our classes have got tactile door signs.
They also have switches which tells the students where they are in the building, and really
helps orientate themselves.
'Class 1.'
This is one of four key stage classrooms.
They're all very light and airy.
We've also got outdoor space which has got soft flooring for the students to be able
to enjoy some outside space and a bit of fresh air.
This is the art and tech room, one of our specialist teaching areas for our young people.
It's got some really robust surfaces so that they can do some messy play, we can have lots
of different art materials in here.
It's also got different height tables and sinks, so that it's accessible to all of our
students.
We're also having a cooker brought in here so that they can start to do some food technology,
which is a fantastic way of them being able to receive education by having a really tactile
and sensory experience.
Here we are in the library.
This is a fantastic place for the students to come and receive education, either at the
one-to-one or as a whole class group.
We got lots of different books in here, which the children can really enjoy.
We've also got puppets that bring the stories to life, and that's really interactive.
We've also got DAISY players and audio books, and the teaching assistants spend a lot of
time putting together a book boxes, which are a fantastic way for the children to learn.
'Topsy and Tim...'
The children can also come and take books away and go home with them and bring them
back, so it's a fantastic resource for them to be able to use.
Now we're in the music room, which is a lovely space for the students to be able to come
as a whole class, to have music, or as a one-to-one.
They've got lots of equipment in here.
Some of it is your normal music equipment - drums, maracas, etc.
MELODIC BEEPING
This is the light and sound room.
It's definitely one of my favourite rooms.
The teaching assistants and teachers are really good at being creative and getting this room,
like, in different environments, so we can have a jungle theme, a space theme, and they
hang different things from the brackets there, the racks hanging overhead.
We've also got a fantastic sound system which can really make the lessons come to life.
They've got a projector which can project all different images onto the wall - of the
forest, space, etc.
We've also got a bubble tube, which some of the students really love as part of an intense
interaction session, as this can also be used for a one-on-one session with the young people,
which they really enjoy and they can get an awful lot out of, and where the teaching assistant
can come in here and use different pieces of equipment, different boards, different
sound boards, and they can really get some fantastic interaction through that.
Obviously, there's also the interactive floor, which is a great thing to even just have a
play with.
[Different notes play]
OK, so this is a sixth form department.
This is for our students that are from 14 to 19.
We have two classrooms which have a different feel to the key stage classrooms, and it's
really about preparing them to move on to adult life.
We've also got a large tutor room, which can be used for PE and independent skills, which
is more the focus within the sixth form.
We also have a common room, which is used for our Tasty Treats Café, and also gives
the students an area to socialise and to be able to be a normal 14 to 19 year old.
This is our main school hall.
It's a lovely big space that we use for whole-school activities, including our school concert at
Christmas time, our summer fetes.
It's a fantastic space for everybody, the whole school to come together, and we also
have registration in here in the mornings, which is where the deputy or the head introduces
all the students and welcomes them to the school day.
