In this video, you are going to learn the new features of Kwik , version 1.1.
As well as some interesting tips to improve your productivity while using our plugin.
As you can see here, we have two different psd files that are going to become a project
inside Kwik. First thing to do before starting your project,
is to name all your layers. Although this may seem poor in task, it will
save time if you decide to do some twigs in the future.
So let's see this first one. If you can see here, i have named all the layers.
And also i have created two different folders. butStart and butURL.
In fact they are pretty much the button start, as you can see here.
And the butURL is to Visit Us. It's important to know that, when rendering
Kwik will transform all the folders into a single image.
So if you are using all the images inside your project, or project into a folder, everything
will be exported together. And probably it's something you don't want.
So again, separate every layer, from folders, leaving there only the images that are going
to be together when exported. Another thing that you will have to take care
of, is the lock button. As you can see here the color image, which
is the green one, it's locked. Locked images will not export, so you can
quickly unlock it. Let's see the second page, or the second document.
This is an example of a project, or a file exported to psd, from Fireworks.
In Fireworks, when fireworks exports, it exports everything inside a main layer.
Which is a folder for PhotShop. If you simply try to export this file as it
is, it will not render. Because Kwik needs at least one art layer
as background. So, if you are using Fireworks, no problems,
you can export your files to psd. But, when you come here, simply select everything,
and move outside the layer. Now you can remove this layer that you are
not going to use anymore. So with that, you have pretty much your two
files ready to go. So let's save both of them.
Another important thing to take care of, layer names, as i mentioned.
Long names or names containing strange characters, for example signs or dots, they are not the
best ones. So try to name everyting, in a way you can
read it, because all layer names become variables into the project.
Also avoid spacially, when you are writing paragraphs of text, PhotoShop puts the entire
contents of the paragraphs as a layer name. So it's going to probably give you some errors
during the execution of the preview file. So avoid big names, take care of text layers,
as well as avoid layers with the same name. Because what happens is, when Kwik exports
a layer with the same name, it will be saved on top of the previous one.
So saying that, let's start our project. Let's name it, myCube.
Naming the same for project names, avoid long names, try to keep it as simple as possible.
Another tip here is, if you are not creating a project for Universal Devices, which we
may think it's the best thing to do, try to pick exactly the device you are going to send.
Because universal projects, takes more time to compile, exports more files, so your applicates
will be bigger. So if you know your target audience, just
export to them. In our case, let's just do it for the iPad.
So let's accept the Cube.asd page. And also, let's do the same for P2, or psd,
as the second page. Let's add this as a new page.
As you can see here, we added some productivity improvement into Kwik.
So if you just accept the provided page title, you don't have to come here and click the
OK. Just press Enter or Return.
Now that you have the two pages created, one thing that I like to do, and I think it's
the best practice to do is, export all the images right now.
Click Export Images, and another thing that you will notice in the Settings Window is
Updates. Check for Updates when starting.
If you enable that, everytime that you start PhotoShop, and Kwik, Kwik will check our website
to see if there is a new update available. And if so it will prompt to you.
In our case here, let's just simply save. Now, let's preview.
And again, the idea of the preview here, is just to export all the files now.
And the advantage of that is, after that you can just work on twiking your animations,
your buttons and your audio files. So, no need to keep going and export images
all the time. We have now, our images done.
And you can even check it with Corona. So let's go to, Kwik, myCube, build, and let's
see it on the iPad which is our main device. So here you go, no interactive here, but you
can flip the page and you see that you have two diffent ones.
Let's go back to PhotoShop.
