Welcome to the Blackboard Collaborate 11 participant orientation.
This orientation session is designed to introduce you to the basic web
conferencing features needed to participate in a session.
The first thing you need to do is to check your speaker and microphone setup.
Prior to joining your session make sure that all the cable connectors are
securely plugged into the correct sockets. 0:00:23.960,0:00:26.029Next, check to see if your speakers are functioning.
For example, check the speakers indicator light, check to make sure they're plugged
into a power source,
and if you're using batteries
check to make sure they're charged.
Make sure that the power switch on your speaker is turned on and the volume is set.
If your microphone has a switch, make sure it's in the on position
and not muted.

Now let's check your speaker and microphone setup.
During your session, Blackboard Collaborate provides a utility
to configure your audio settings.
You can access this utility at anytime during your session
by clicking the audio setup wizard button
located in the audio and video panel.
Follow the steps to configure your audio .0:01:16.890,0:01:19.250 First, select your audio output device.
You may have more than one device that can play the session audio.
If it's an unplugged usb device plug it in and wait for the system to recognize it.

Click the refresh button to add the device to the list then click okay .0:01:33.910,0:01:35.979 Now set your speaker volume.
Click the play button to hear a short recording .0:01:38.670,0:01:42.610 While this plays adjust the speaker volume slider to a comfortable listening
level.
Then click stop
and confirm that you were able to hear the recording .0:01:47.680,0:01:50.290 Now select your audio input device.
This is the microphone that you will use to send audio to others during the
session.
If you are using a usb microphone, plug it in,
wait a few seconds,
then click the refresh button
select the device and click OK. 0:02:05.040,0:02:09.039Nex t, test your microphone by recording your voice. Click the record button
and speak into the microphone.
Adjust the slider so it is mostly showing green. Click stop,
listen to your recorded voice and confirm that your microphone is working properly
choose multiple talkers only if you're using a room microphone
with more than one participant.0:02:27.369,0:02:29.869 Now let's set your connection speed.
When you join the session the first thing you need to do is set your
connection speed so that Blackboard Collaborate can efficiently manage the
data that it sends and receives.
This only needs to be done once because Blackboard Collaborate will remember the
setting

go to the edit menu-
preferences-session and connection.
Preferences on the Mac is found under the Blackboard Collaborate menu .0:02:58.699,0:03:00.859 This is the participant's interface.
There are four main areas of the interface:
the audio and video panel
which is where you will turn on and off your microphone
and turn on and off your webcam;
the participants panel
this is where you see the moderator and all the participants listed.
This is also where you'll go to raise your hand, respond to a polling question,
and to see indicators of which session tools are in use.
The chat panel
is where you will send and receive text chat messages.
The white board is the main content area of the screen
and there's a set of whiteboard tools available to draw and write on the page.
Now let's take a look at how you can raise your hand during a session.
Click the raise hand button
and a hand icon will appear in the participants panel
and a number will appear next to your name indicating
the order in which the hands have been raised.
Provide feedback using the emoticons.
Click the feedback or the emoticon button to find the feedback options such
as a smiley face, applause and confusion.
Select your feedback
and then that emoticon will appear next to your name in the participants
panel.
To speak during the session
click the talk button or use the hotkey of control plus F2.
The talk button will change to show a microphone icon and the same icon will
appear to the right of your name in the participants list.
When you're done talking click the talk button again .0:04:27.510,0:04:30.460 That'll turn off your microphone.
There will be a clear indicator in the participants panel which participants
have their microphones turned on. 0:04:36.310,0:04:38.729And, by opening the audio and video panel
you'll be able to see who is actively speaking.
The web conferencing session supports up to six live simultaneous video streams.
Click the preview button to preview your video
and then click the video button to transmit.
Chat is availble to send and receive text messages. Simply type your message
and hit enter on your keyboard.
You may also send a private chat message.
Right click on a participant's name or from the participant's option menu
select send a private chat.
Each private chat conversation will appear in a separate tab with that
participant's name.
The whiteboard is the main content area of the screen.
This is where you can view a presentation,
or collaborate with other participants using the whiteboard tools.
The whiteboard tools are located in a pallet that can be moved anywhere on the
screen.
To use a tool,
click on it to make it active .0:05:33.159,0:05:35.370 Once the tool has been selected,
you can change the properties.
Click the tool,
hold it down, and the various properties will then appear.
For example,
you can change the pointer to a hand or a smiley face. There is also a collection 0:05:46.979,0:05:51.879of clipart available to be able to place images on the screen.
Whiteboard pages can be saved by selecting file-
save-
and whiteboard.
Then select the page you wish to save,
all the pages,
the current page, 0:06:01.629,0:06:05.800or multiple specifically selected pages, then click ok.
Select the format you want.
PDF is the most popular for saving content to be viewed outside of a
session.
You can print the whiteboard pages
by selecting file
and whiteboard.
The moderator has the ability to disable the save and the print functionality.
You can step away from a session by clicking the step away button.
The word "away"
and an away icon will appear next to your name in the participants list.
You can leave the session from the help menu.
