I’ve been living here for four years
but, as you know, we look for better opportunities
for ourselves and our children
because in Mexico it’s very tough
the drugs and everything
we’re scared of being in Mexico and we’re scared of leaving for Mexico.
We had made up our minds to leave, but
we stopped ourselves because of the situation in Mexico right now
(Off-Camera) Of course.
because of the situation in Mexico right now.
We want a future for our children, that’s the only thing we ask for.
My kids were born here, they are from here,
and I don’t want to give them a different future,
I want them to grow up in the country they’re from
but they’re not letting us.
(Off-camera) What part of Mexico (are you from)?
Michoacan.
(Off-Camera) What are you thinking now? What’s on your mind?
Well, we’ve thought about many things, like switching states,
but if we go to a different state, I know that in months or years it’ll be the same thing.
It would the same thing. One month, two months, a year--it would be the same as here.
Because if they allowed it here, they’ll allow it in another state.
And to go back to Mexico, to the violence and danger, scares us.
It scares us a lot because, people know you’re heading over there, they think you have money
we’d be their target, and we don’t want that for our children.
(Off-Camera) Of course. What precautions are you taking, how has your day to day life changed?
It has changed completely.
We don’t want, we can’t anymore--We are scared to go get food.
We’re going to get food and we’re at risk of being stopped.
We leave our house, do the sign of the cross and pray to God to bless. Who knows if we’ll come back together again.
