>>Okay
My name is Leticia Parra and I come from Colonia Curry Estates.
The problem that we have in the colonia is flooding.
The only entrance to the colonia has an entrance and exit and both streets flood.
And when it rains, it floods and you can’t leave.
The buses can’t come in for the children and you have to take them to the edge [of
the colonia].
There are buses that break down and can’t pick up the children from their houses.
And it doesn’t even have to be a hurricane for us to flood, even any rain is enough.
When it rains a lot, the water lasts more than a week,
and someone has to call so they can come pump the water out.
And that’s how the water leaves. But if they don’t go drain it, it can be there
for weeks.
>> And are there children that miss school?
When the hurricane happened, no, because the bus waited at the edge and we took the children.
But if the children don’t have parents that can take them, then yes, they miss school
because the bus doesn’t go into the colonia, or says that they have to be brought to the
edge because the bus breaks down with all the water.
>> And is there a problem with diseases?
Yes, there are many problems with disease, because of the mosquitoes.
Many problems with disease when it rains.
