MEP Theodoros SKYLAKAKIS Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe
The South can only exit the crisis by motivating the productive sector, the private sector of its economy.
This is the key for escaping the crisis for Greece, as well as the rest of the countries of the South.
In order to do that, much better funding is needed, mainly for the private sector...
...there is no point in continuing funding for a bankrupt public sector...
...when money could be given towards investment for young people to find jobs...
...while at the same time serious effort has to be put towards lowering interest rates.
There is no way, with a 4-5% difference in interest rates, for the countries of the South...
...to compete with the rest of the Eurozone countries.
So funding, fluidity in interest rates and emphasis on the private sector of the economy...
...this is the key for the countries of the South to escape the crisis.
