Hi, this is my first attempt at a tesla coil
it looks pretty crappy as it all started with me just wanting to test the secondary to see
if it works, so I just threw a whole bunch of stuff together
and meanwhile i'm going to be getting building supplies and make a proper
primary coil and a nice base for this whole thing but uh...
surprisingly it works with just these bare necessities
The secondary coil is twenty six gauge copper wire wound 800 times
around a two-inch diameter PVC
pipe
my capacitors are homemade high voltage capacitors
made using two sheets of aluminium foil interspersed between
a couple of these acetate
sheets which are just blank overhead projector
sheets
so that makes actually quite a nice capacitor and you can find a couple recipes online
for these things
each of these holds 3 nf, and two are in
parallel so that makes a total of 6 nf for this this whole thing
my spark gap as you can see
is just two door knobs
and
I'm waiting on some X-ray transformers which will be awesome
but in the meantime I'm powering this with
a flyback transformer
ZVS driver, so that's plugged into that DC power supply over there
which is basically just a big chassis that has a toroidal transformer in there (step down)
a couple of filter capacitors and a bridge rectifier, so that whole thing is
plugged into
the variac
and that's all it is, I'll show you how it works
and that's about it - noisy
and ugly-looking
but
it works!
thanks for watching
