Bonnie Bustos-Rios: There's just something about an Aggie.
I think it's more than just college. People come here to become better people.
Gen. Joe Weber: We have the most articulate, respectful, patriotic, committed students.
The number one thing on their mind is 'what can I do for my community,
for my state, my country and the world.'
Dr. Jim Kracht: Every Student who comes here is part of this great family.
Dr. Karan Watson: We are committed to making sure that the great potential
that our students have is indeed realized.
Dr. R. Bowen Loftin: Everything we do here, from instruction in the classroom & laboratory
to the organizations available to students, everything is focused on the student;
their learning, their development, and ultimately their success.
Students here come with great capabilities. But they also need assistance.
And in the past, they've had to go to many places to get it.
The Academic Success Center is really, we think, a center that will combine many pieces
and allow these students to come to one place and get help and assistance and encouragement
Sierra Johnson: Coming in, students don't really know what all is offered here at A&M
and having the Academic Success Center provided for them really gives them
an opportunity to find those inlets and figure out where they can get plugged in
and how they can be connected here at A&M to those resources that are available to them.
Arthur Watson: Oftentimes, students don't know where to go, so if it's all
in one place, they have a one stop shop and they can get
everything that they need at that one place.
Bonnie Bustos-Rios: There's definitely a plethora of resources
for our students to pick from.
Dr. Karan Watson: The holistic approach that we have in the Academic Success Center
is to get the student back on track as quick as possible, helping them to understand
the kind of commitment they have to make and the strategies they can use to succeed.
Dr. Jim Kracht: The Academic Success Center employs scholastic performance specialists
able to advise students across campus. They ought to be
the most informed individuals on this campus about the kinds of academic resources
and student affairs resources that are available to students.
One of the first things we'll do when a student visits the
Academic Success Center is go through a diagnosis of what their needs are.
There's not a 'one plan fits all' with the center. It's going to be very very individualized.
Gen. Joe Weber: We're going to get them in there and we're going to
put them on a path, and then we're going to say 'come back and see us,
we want to monitor you, we want to track you, we got you on this path
for success, we want to make sure we're doing everything we can
to keep you on that path.'
Arthur Watson: Students will be able to go to get that extra help, that extra push
those action plans, having those action plans reinforced
and those follow ups.
Dr. Karan Watson: Our efforts are to make sure that if you get in
you get out with a degree in a timely fashion with low debt.
Bonnie Bustos-Rios: I feel like this resource is one of those
where someone is there 100 percent committed to helping you do better.
Gen. Joe Weber: It's an aggressive way of helping students
solve some problems, whatever they are, that are preventing them
from achieving academic success.
Dr. Karan Watson: We are committed to the students
so that they can reach their full potential.
Dr. Jim Kracht: We want to get students to the point where they're
equipped to engage those resources on this campus that they need to be a success
Sierra Johnson: The Academic Success Center really just gives the student
a sense of hope.
Dr. R. Bowen Loftin: The number one thing that we're trying to do here
is to equip our students for success.
