Hello and welcome to this new video.
I am going to show you how to perform a Windows 8.1 Clean install on a Thinkpad Yoga
This is not going to be a step by step tuturial, I will only give you some tipps and hints. Enjoy it!
The most difficult part is to get a Windows 8.1 ISO. Microsoft makes this not very easy. Googling will tell you that.
You need a valid Windows 8 product-key. There is one located in the BIOS of the Thinkpad Yoga
There are some tools, which extract this embedded product-key. But this key won´t work for the Windows 8-Downloader.
If you have a valid key, start the Windows 8 Downlader, after the download reached 1% abord the download.
Then start the Windows 8.1 installation assistent. He will now download the WIndows 8.1 ISO.
As I told, for this you need a separate productkey for Windows. The embedded one did not work for me.
I was lucky, because I had a Windows 8-Update-Key.
If you have the ISO, copy it on a bootable USB-Drive or burn it on a DVD.
I´ve choosed the DVD...
Now you can start the installation of Windows 8.1 by plugging in the USB-Device and turning on the Yoga.
Now you don´t need the Windows-Product-Key any more. The Setup automatically will grab the embedded one.
During the Windows-Setup you don´t need to much attention on any settings.
I have turned off the automatic Windows-Updates (will it turn on later).
Wireless works out of the box.
After installing Windows 8.1, the system allready works well.
Now you should download and run Lenovo System-Update.
Install everything, except the Passwort-Manager and the Quick-Controlls (do it if you really need them).
The installation will take a while... grab a coffee!
Now you can turn the automatic-Windows Updates back on. Install all the Windows Updates.....
You have to install 2 drivers manually.
You can find them on the Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga driver page.
First thing is the patch for the adaptive brightness of the display.
Without the patch, Windows 8.1 changes the brightness every few seconds, very anoying.
The second thing you have to install manually is the firmware update for the wacom-Pen / Digitizer-Display.
Without the firmware update the pen is not very accurate and if the displaylid is closed, the mousecursor may move strange.
If you have a non intel-SSD your system may freeze or won´t boot from time to time. I have a Samsung-SSD and had this issues.
Intels LPM (Link Powermanagement Technology), which is a powersafe-feature for SSDs causes this freeze-issues, if the SSD is not from intel.
You have to turn the LPM-Feature off. Download the Intel Rapid Technology driver from the Intel-Homepage.
You can now find an option to turn it off in the software of the Intel-Rapid-Storage-Driver.
Now you can install your other software like office or so on.
That´ it. Now you should not have any unknown devices in the device manager and your system should run fine.
Additional Lenovo software is available on the Lenovo homepage or in the Windows Appstore.
But i recomment to not install them, because thats the reason for a clean install: A clean and fast system. (You see a cold-win 8.1-boot)
I must say that the Thinkpad Yoga is easy to handle for doing a Clean-Install
I hope you enjoyed the video. Good bye!
