Hey! This is Amelia.
In this demonstration, I am going to cover how to reduce over plotting by using
the transparency setting in JMP.
Let’s say that I’m working with a data set containing 30,000 rows and
exploring two variables with a scatter plot.
The data seems to fall into clusters, but with so many points it hard to
distinguish between a group of 100 points
and a group with 1000 points.
Don’t worry!
By adjusting the transparency setting on the points, you can increase the readability
of the report.
To increase the point transparency, I’m going to right-click and select
Graph > Transparency.
Since I know I have lots of points, I’ll choose a value that is mostly transparent.
In the other platforms, like the Parallel plot, you’ll find this option in the
primary right-click menu.
See, in both of these examples, by increasing the transparency of the points,
it is easier to locate the dense areas of the graph.
Thanks for watching!
