THE REVOLUTION OF THE ROOT
Our actual education system is the principal cause of all our troubles,
and this is what I propose to change.
In this video I am going to explain us why is this so bad and what I think to do to try to change it
The education determines to a large degree our lives
Because her influence expands for example in how we relate and with whom (It influences in the realtionships and the ways to see the things)
Our way to see the world and understand ourselves.
The education is the responsible to prepare us for the society and to help us for discover our potential to be happy (It prepares us and it should helps us to be happy)
The sons of this society spend more time in the school than with their families (we are dedicating a lot of time to the educational system).
And every job from the most influential to the least valued have been in the school (our politicians are the result of the school)
So, if the education malfunctions, the society cannot go good, becuase the education is the root of everything
Why the education is so important? The individual survivor, the individual happiness, depends to a large degree on the rest of the community.
And the human communities depend of the talents diversity, not of an only concept of capacity.
What is the problem of the education?
The awesome advances produced in the last century have achieved to stop being a society based in the masive production of objects
to be a society of the services and information, whose motor are the ideas and therefore, the creativity
However, in the school, in contrast to what we might believe, we eliminate our sons' creativity without any compassion.
And I can say it because I base myself in a study maked with 1500 people in the book Break point and Beyond
and the study says we are losing the principal ability to have creativity (our capacity to answer in a lot of ways one question)
when we advance on the school: this test concludes that the percent of the children with 5 years
who have the capacity to give more than 200 answers to a question like:``how many uses can you imagine for a clipper?´´
is the 98%, but the children between 8-10 years have a 38%, with 13-14 years the percent is 10%... 23 00:02:13,00 --> 00:02:18,00 ...and since the 25 years, only a 2% of the interviewed people can be considered genies. 24 00:02:20,00 --> 00:02:22,00 This problem happens because the academic ability is dominating the concept of the intelligence
(we eliminate the creativity of our kids when that is the most valorated in this century),
insomuch as the universities desgined the system to their image (standardized and hierarchized system).
If we look, the schools are organized in a way very similar as the factories: rings bells, separate facilities, separate subjects,
we still educating children by batches, the most important thing is the date of ``manufacture´´.
I know children who are more talented in a group of subjetcs than the others, or in differents moments of the day,
or better in smaller groups than larger ones, or even on their own.
I still listening phrases like: ``I'm sorry lady, but your son doesn't compromise himself.´´
``I'm sorry, but his family doesn't support him´´, and these are unacceptables phrases.
I always say that is like a physician who says to the mum: ``I`m sorry but your son is ill. If he was healthy maybe he wasn't in this hospital.´´
We need schools for silly children, we need schools for the children who are not interested in the studies,
we need public schools for the children without a familiar support. This is the real challenge. We need a school for everybody.
The story of the ballerina (By Sir Ken Robinson): Her name is Gillian Lenn and she is choreographer and everybody knows her work.
She made Cats and The phantom of the Opera.
One day, I had lunch with her and I question her: ``How did you get to be ballerina?´´
It was interesting, because she was incompetent at achool, and in the 30's
the teachers wrote to her fathers saying: ``we think she has a learning disorder´´,
because she couldn't concentrate, she was moving nervously. If that happened in the present,
she graduated and founded her own company: The Dance Company Gillian Lenn.
the teachers had said: ``she has a hiperactivity disorder´´, but this happened in the 30's,
and nobody still invented the TDAH syndrome, so this disorder wasn't avaliable in that time.
Her mother took her to the psychologist to evaluate her, because her teachers
complained that she was giving her homework later, her handwriting was horrible and she was barely approving.
The doctor sat down and said to the girl: ``Wait here, we won't come back very late´´. And they left the room and left her alone.
The doctor turned on the radio on his desk, and when they left the room, he tells the mum: ``Just wait and let's see her´´.
Gillian stopped, and she began to move with the rhythm of the music and they observed her for a few minutes,
and the doctor said to her mother: ''Mrs. Lenn, Gillian is not ill: she is a ballerina. Take her to a dance school.
When she told me this story, I question her: ``And what happened then?´´An she said me:
``We entered in that school and it was full of people like me: people who had to move for think.´´
Eventually she entered in the school Royal Bayer, she had a amazing career with Royal Bayer School,
She has been responsible for some of the most successful musical plays in the history.
Millions of people has enjoyed with her plays, and now she is multimillionaire.
But nowadays it's probably that any one else would have prescribed a medication and would have said she had to calm down.
It's not a matter of luck. In my house we say: ``the first child hadn't luck, he had bad teachers,
the second was lucky, she had a good teachers.´´ This is not a right mentioned of the Constitution or the Children rights Convention.
It mustn't be by luck. To have good teachers must be the first human right of study for all childrens.
If the pupils are happy, probably they will get a job.
What is not working, is continue doing a dogmatic school for the formation of new teachers.
This is the challenge of the education, this is the challenge of us, fathers, and of us, teachers.
And because this, since a lot time ago I am inviting for the goverments not to change the school,
I'm inviting them to worry about teacher training: Because a good teacher cannot do a bad work in spite of our bad laws,
and a bad teacher cannot do a good work in spite of our good laws.
The school is one of the jobs which has the most workers with illness.
If the teachers get ill, it means they don't live good their job. 68 00:06:40,00 --> 00:06:45,00 These figures are not usually people who gets ill, otherwise, the job gives them very strong.
Why the teachers suffer both of their profession? The society doesn't like this school.
For this, there are more and more children who are leaving the school as soon as they can.
Concretely, in Spain we have a 30% of school failure by this lack of motivation,
Because they don't see in it passion, or emotion,
and in consequence there is a lot of people with talents and creativity who thinks they haven't those talents,
because the things they did good weren't valorated in the school.
Thus, vanishes almost all their talents (lost of people with talent),
their capacity to be happy doing something they like and work with it in the future innovating the learned things (inability for innovate).
It seems like we only valorate the future job of the children, but first we must enjoy with the way.
The problem is this fixation with the final destination ignores the joy of what happens along the way.
How to change it? Actually, there are a lot of educational systems in the world
whose effectiveness is measured based on their productivity, but obviously we want people to be happy.
And that is not only a productivity system, because we need also a system without social diferences,
where exists a strong social conscience and where the students enjoy learning.
Comparing countries in these areas, it is clear that Finland has these characteristics: 93 00:07:52,00 --> 00:07:59,00 less than 1% of school failure, Finland boasts his education as a pillar of the Welfare State
and outside the system of government that exercises in each moment, keeps these methods from the 70s. 95 00:08:05,50 --> 00:08:09,00 The number of teaching hours that goes from 7 to 14 years is the smallest
of the countries belonging to the OECD (Organization for the Educational Cooperation and Development) 97 00:08:12,00 --> 00:08:18,00 and however Finland is the country in the first place or in the top three positions of the PISA Reports.
THE PROYECT: The purpose of this project is to be in Finland at least in the month of August
(the15th of August begins the school in Finland), where we will collect the teaching methods they use,
the way they communicate with the students,
and the organization social and educational structure which they have.
To do this, we will organize almost daily interviews with teachers, families and students
of different ages, educational levels and social classes.
We will coexistence with different families with teachers and students (hosts and interviews),
we will collect through a democratic website (virtualpol.com) the mostly voted questions
and our team will includes them in the interviews,
most of the work that we make will be broadcast via internet streaming
(you can participate via the Internet in making decisions and see the streaming)
and everything will be available for download. 110 00:09:00:00 --> 00:09:03,00 Later, we will organize the material to create a documentary and manuals that explain
everything researched for helping spanish teachers to could considerably enhance education. 112 00:09:08,50 --> 00:09:10,00 Thus, although the government does not give us good tools
or is not really worried about improving our education, we can do it.
Currently, I have an intermediate level of finnish language, but for now,
most of the finns I've contacted, especially teachers, speak English more or less fluid,
so it will be easy to make understandable all interviews.
This material will be published under license copyleft free
and you can see the news of this project and contribute to its development in odre.org
