Welcome.
This is an introduction to the features of the APA Clinical Training Video Series.
APA now has a number of options for accessing video content,
including the new APA Clinical Training Video Series.
These are topically focused collections of demonstration videos.
There are four different focused collections within the APA Clinical Training Video Series.
They are General Mental Health,
Behavioral Health, Substance Abuse and Addiction,
and Couple Therapy.
All of the APA Clinical Training Video Series products provide access to demonstration videos.
Users can see how a therapist works with a variety of presenting issues
and what different approaches look like.
Interns and professionals can also get a sense of what the various interventions within those approaches are.
And, trainers can use the features of these products to collect the exact videos that they want to show their interns,
and they can even collect clips and make playlists of interventions they want to refer to later.
The purpose of this video is to show the features of these products.
Let's look at the APA Clinical Training Video Series General Mental Health.
You can search for videos using the APA PsycNET Advanced Search page.
Let's say you want to conduct a search about anxiety.
The results show up on the left-hand side
in the Related PsycTHERAPY search results box.
Note that all of the collections within the APA Clinical Training Video Series
are subsets of APA's larger, more comprehensive PsycTHERAPY database.
So search results appear here.
Here we see the results list.
Clicking on a video's title will bring us to the video player page.
Note that the videos are intended for educational purposes
whether as a mental health professional or professional in training.
Identifying information has been masked to maintain participant confidentiality in the context of this demonstration video.
Below the video screen are the video player controls.
You can pause the video or advance through it by using the progress bar at the bottom
or by scrolling through the transcript and clicking on any point in the text.
You can also search the transcript for a specific word or phrase.
I'll search here for the word "education."
Note how the video scrolls in sync when searching.
Above the video is a "See more details" link.
This reveals the complete record about the video,
with information about the client, therapist, approach, and demonstration details.
If you want to find other videos, you can use the Advanced Search.
Say you are interested in finding a demonstration of therapy with a man who is experiencing some anxiety
about initiating conversations with other people.
On the Advanced Search page, you can look for the word "conversation" in the Transcript and Notes
plus add "anxiety" as an Index Term
and choose "Male" in the Client Details.
Here you see the results of that search.
Note the Transcript Hits section.
You can click any of the play buttons in this section or click on the word you searched for, which is highlighted in red.
This will take you exactly to that point in the video.
Another way to discover videos is to go to the Browse page.
Note that this is another way that we might have found the Treating Social Anxiety video that we saw earlier.
Clip making is a really useful feature of the APA Clinical Training Video Series.
Clips allow you to save exact segments of a video for later viewing.
Imagine you want to save a moment in the video you looked at earlier where the therapist talked about anxiety the client was experiencing.
You can create the clip with precise start and stop times.
And, you create custom titles for the clips that you will easily recognize later.
Then select your "Viewable by" option,
changing to "My institution only" if you want to share with a class
and add any notes.
Another useful feature is the ability to create custom playlists.
Imagine that you have many clips or even entire videos that you want to show your class.
You can save clips, full videos, and even outside URLs to a playlist to share with others.
It's easy to add videos and clips to a playlist! Just look for the plus sign.
In summary, the APA Clinical Video Series products are for training graduate students and interns in psychotherapy.
They provide users with collections of educational psychotherapy demonstrations,
each focused on specific topics.
Users can search the transcripts of videos in the collections;
browse by topics, by therapeutic approaches, or by therapists;
create clips; and create playlists to share.
Again, there are four different focused collections within the APA Clinical Training Video Series.
General Mental Health, Behavioral Health,
Substance Abuse and Addiction, and Couple Therapy.
