each day we can look up from earth see the Sun
and the moon and I challenge you to really consider the sizes of these
relative our planet Earth in your mind do the Sun and Moon
as well as the rest our solar system look like this well it should
what you're seeing is a scale of our solar system with each planet
the Sun and our moon scaled relative to the size of
earth I think this is a great way
to showcase the scale tool in SolidWorks this along with countless other tools
is one of those great SolidWorks commands that sometimes goes unnoticed
the scale tool allows you to scale solid or surface body
about its centroid the model origin or a coordinate system
for this example I chose to start with one sphere
and then I made 10 copies of it for our planets
the Moon and the Sun then I had tp play around a bit with the position of the solids
so everything fits right and looks good when I'm done then I used to scale tool
to create this model of our solar system the scale tool
is incredibly simple to use with the command active
simply choose the body and key in the scale factor
for this example I'll choose each plant or solid
individually and key in the appropriate factor to scale its size
relative to earth
Lastly I'll add rings to Saturn and apply some texture to this model
to give it a more realistic looked as you can see
this whole project was very simple and easy to do I was only required to create
one solid from scratch
because I was able to leverage that same solid with the move and copy bodies
command
as well as the scale tool by using these great tools at SolidWorks has to offer
you can see how you can design much more efficiently and effectively
