George Fox hosted the New Abolitionists conference October 24th
an event to abolish sex trafficking
and forced prostitution in Portland
Law enforcement, social workers,
rescue ministries,
and trafficking experts
spoke at the day long event
to raise awareness,
dispel myths,
and encourage action.
Keynote speaker, James Pond,
challenged listeners to think beyond merely rescuing victims
'They need long-term help,' he said
'freedom without a future is just another form of slavery.'
A recent FBI report
stated that: Portland has become the 2nd ranked city in the country for sex trafficking
Oregon police say they encounter 3-5 people per week
who are the victims of trafficking
and most of them are children.
This problem is happening in our streets and in our backyards.
The task is daunting, but the need is critical
