My name is Pat, Pat Jeske.
I'm originally from England.
I lived many years in South America
and now I'm a resident of Portland.
I came to live in Portland and fell in love with it.
I enjoy watching people.
My granddaughter would always say to me, “Don't stare!”
and I say, “I'm not staring, I'm just looking.”
Usually they are just people going to work
and people coming from work.
I get a monthly senior pass or I get a book of tickets.
And with those I can get on the bus and then on the MAX
and off the MAX and on the streetcar
and go all over town all day.
So ... I just go places.
You go over the bridges and it's just pleasant to get on there
and sit there and look out the window and enjoy the trip.
Very convenient.
I mean without it, it would be much more difficult for me.
I wouldn't get out.
Everybody is very kind.
One day I got off the MAX and the wheel of my walker got caught.
Well, you would think someone had fallen
and broken their neck or something.
Everybody was around me, picking up my walker,
helping me, making sure I was okay.
You know, people are great. Sometimes it's like a kind of MAX club.
I never thought I'd not be able to walk because I was a great walker.
I didn't need a walker, I walked everywhere.
Walked in London, walked in South America, walked in California.
But now I can't, now I need the walker.
So I need the transportation. I need the MAX.
I mean it's my life, I couldn't get around without it.
