Hi everybody, welcome to this special Earth Day and Earth Week episode of Dahn TV.
Throughout the end of April and beginning of May, Dahn Yoga members and employees worked with
Earth-aware organizations all across the U.S. to protect our beautiful planet.
We're here at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, NY.
Today we've teamed up with Million Trees in their efforts to plant a million trees in New York City.
Who's here with you today?
Well we have several Young Earth Human Alliance members, YEHA members from the surrounding centers.
We actually have a group down in Brooklyn, in Spring Creek Park.
In the morning we started out helping register people with Million Trees
and then we did probably 5 minutes of exercise to warm up our bodies before we planted trees.
So there was so Dahn Yoga going on.
Yeah, there was!
Well, I couldn't just stand around and watch... I thought I'd give it a try.
Where are the trees~
Maurice just went to get some.
What? You took the last one?
No tree for you!
All right, first tree!
An exciting day for Mother Earth.
New York wasn't the only place Earth Citizens were busy planting trees.
In addition to planting trees, there were many other Earth activities as well throughout the country.
Now of course it's very important to know that you have to protect the Earth and take action,
but what may be even more important is to be able to feel that connection with the Earth.
Through Dahn Yoga training, it's very easy to connect to your body and the Earth.
Here we are at the Nation's capitol where the Climate Rally, put together by the Earth Day Network took place.
The huge event featured big stars such as John Legend and Sting as well as an appearance by Avatar director James Cameron.
Early in the day, to kick off the climate rally, YEHA members joined together to share a special demonstration.
It's called "Avatar Kikong" which was inspired by James Cameron's motion picture: Avatar.
We're here with Michael Munson, a good friend of mine and he's here
organizing everything that we're doing with Earth Day for the past few days.
I noticed you guys are all wearing the "I am an Earth Citizen" T-shirt.
Can you tell me a little bit about the Earth Citizen Movement?
Sure. The Earth Citizen Movement is basically an initiative,
a global initiative to let people recognize our connection and responsibility for the Earth.
But the idea is to not only give back to the Earth, but feel a connection through that process.
We named the kikong form "Avatar Kikong" because Avatar presents some
really important ideas of the connection and the oneness of humanity and the Earth.
People can actually experience that connection with the Earth the same way that Jake Sully experienced through the movie "Avatar."
Avatar Kikong was demonstrated and taught by Dahn Yoga's Young Earth Human Alliance all over America.
And finally, we're very proud to share some more good news with you.
Rockland County, New York and the city and county of Honolulu in Hawaii, have both proclaimed Earth Citizen Days.
Members of the Wyckoff, NJ Dahn Yoga center worked with IBREA, the International Brain Education Association
to organize the Earth Citizen Walk in Rockland County, NY.
It was headed by Janet Winston, who created and organized the event.
So, we're here with Janet.
She is the one who put this together, coordinating everything.
Can you tell us a little bit about how you got started with all this?
I was walking one day by myself, and I received this wonderful vision
to have a walk and to bring people of all races and nationalities and religions together.
This is the Earth Citizen Walk, so what does it mean to be an Earth Citizen.
Well, to be an Earth Citizen, is to be a part of the Earth Citizen movement, which is to create a more beautiful and peaceful world.
And thus, May 2nd, 2010 was proclaimed Earth Citizen Walk Day by C. Scott Vanderhoef, the county executive of Rockland County, NY.
In Honolulu, Mayor Mufi Hannemann proclaimed April 24th to be Earth Citizen Day in the City and County of Honolulu.
Here, he can be seen standing with Nobuko Todd, the regional manager of Dahn Yoga in Hawaii.
The Mago Earth Festival was held in He'eia State Park to celebrate.
Many Dahn Yoga members and instructors volunteered their time to clean the park.
The festival featured Dahn Yoga classes, Kikong demonstrations, healing workshops for all ages,
music and dance, as well as a tree planting ceremony.
I hope you enjoyed our Earth Day special.
