My name's Johnny Buch and I'm the co-founder of
the Rooster Walk Music and Arts Festival in Martinsville-Henry Co
Originally we started Rooster Walk to remember two of our
closest childhood friends, Edwin "The Rooster" Penn and Walker Shank
who passed away when they were in their mid-twenties within about a year of
each other. We wanted to do something where we could bring our community
together to celebrate life
We had great community support for the first Rooster Walk. There have been some
people that doubted whether it would last
But the first Rooster Walk went really well. We're planning Rooster Walk Six now
We'd never put on a festival before, we didn't know if it was going to be a
success or a failure and
don't think we ever imagined in our wildest dreams that it would one day turn
into a full-time job
and be an event that's raising more than twenty five thousand dollars for
a scholarship fund
at Martinsville High School. Rooster walk has exceeded my expectations. My education has helped
me to be better organized
putting on rooster you face a variety of issues
be a better communicator - being able to work through those problems
to be a better marketer - is probably the biggest area where my education has
helped me
It's really been the linchpin thats helped make Rooster Walk successful
Rooster Walk brings tourism dollars to Martinsville-Henry County - based on a
survey of last year's festival
more than 45 percent of people drove at least 60 miles
one-way to attend Rooster Walk 5. Rooster Walk was named the number one
up-and-coming music festival on the East Coast by Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine
Everything excites me about my job - my job is very exciting
I get to deal with music every day - doing something that I feel is great for my
community
You get put on an event thats the highlight of a lot of people's year
brings together a lot of good friends and a lot of good music
