- So, could you just state your name please?
- Lynn St Amour.
- OK, Lynn could you please tell me the greatest takeaway from the principle of
multistakeholderism please, what do you think it is?
- The Internet's breaking so many boundaries, and the issues that are in front of us are new,
they're nuanced, they're complex, we need a lot of different voices, a lot of different perspectives,
a lot of different opinions, and they all need to be treated equally and heard equally.
- You've seen the IGF from its inception, and so how have you seen it grow over the years, and why do
you think it has grown?
- Well it went from a scepticism on the part of some communiites, in fact there was some question
within the Internet community why the Internet community wasn't the right forum for a lot of these
activities, since our processes themselves are inherently multistakeholder and open.
Was it not best to see those forums with this type of discussion. But it's just proven itself so well
over the years, the fact you can do this over the course of a week, with so many different people,
it's really concentrated, you've got a really diverse set of people, a diverse set of views,
a lot of interactions, it's just gone from strength to strength, it's a really remarkable force now
in Internet governance.
- And what is your hope for the IGF in the future?
- That it continues to go from strength to strength, on a more pragmatic level that it gets a little properly
better resourced, they've had great staff in the past, but they're a little understaffed at the moment.
Chengetai has done a fantastic job, but he really needs more resources.
So we hope that it stays within its non-applicative, non-binding, not to take responsiblity from
existing organisations mandate, but that it gets better resources so we can continue to grow it out
even more robustly.
- Great, well thank you very much for your time, really appreciate it.
