Following on from the Spending Review’s reaffirmation of the Government’s commitment
to the Midland Metro Line One extension in Birmingham,
Minister for Local and Regional Transport Norman Baker went to Snow Hill station.
The Metro has become an integral part of the city’s transport system,
and this proposed scheme, through Birmingham City Centre,
will run to a new terminus outside the main entrance to Birmingham New Street Station.
The aim is to not only provide a better link to the national rail network help to
reduce congestion, but also help towards regeneration and economic development goals.
As they develop this scheme The Department for Transport will now work closely with Centro,
the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive, to ensure the taxpayer gets value for money.
