Hardware failures occur for a number of reasons, and can happen suddenly or gradually over
time. A bad power supply, faulty memory, or failed hard drive, are all common types of
hardware problems.
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI enables you to test the main hardware components of your
computer even when you cannot load the operating system.
If you notice signs of hardware problems such as excessive fan noise, beeping, or random
freezes and shutdowns, it may be time to test your hardware for failures.
To access the HP Hardware Diagnostics screen, turn on your computer and immediately press
the F2 key repeatedly until the UEFI menu appears.
The options that appear in the menu may be different depending on the version of UEFI
and your model of HP computer.
On this model, the options include System Information, System Tests, Component Tests,
Firmware Management, Test Logs, and Language. Use your mouse or keyboard to navigate the
menu.
System Information lists details about your computer. For example, you can see your BIOS
version and product number.
You can also view more details on hardware components such as Memory, Hard Drive, and
Battery.
This information is helpful if you need to replace parts or service your computer.
The System Tests allow you to perform a series of hardware component tests through one scan
for a comprehensive analysis of your PC.
You can choose to run a quick or extensive test and a time estimation will be displayed
for each.
Use Component Tests to scan your hardware components for errors. Components include
processor, memory, hard drive, and more.
Some component tests may include a variety of options to choose from, allowing you to
further refine your search for hardware errors.
From the Firmware Management section you can install the latest updates to your BIOS or
roll back to a previously installed version.
You can review the results of diagnostics tests at any time in Test Logs, which stores
a full record of your test history.
HP provides updates to hardware diagnostics several times each year. Before testing your
hardware, update HP Hardware Diagnostics to the latest available version. Visit the HP
support website to download the latest version for your PC.
HP Support Assistant includes many of these diagnostic tests, as well as other tests such
as the optical drive check, network check, and many more support options.
