You can upgrade your current Samsung Windows 7 PC to Windows 8
to enjoy Microsoft’s latest operating system and features.
Follow along with this video to learn how to perform an OS upgrade
using your Windows 8 installation disk.
To see whether your Samsung PC is compatible with Windows 8, visit
Before you begin the installation, it is important
to complete a backup of all important data.
To do this, we recommend using an external hard drive
with enough storage capacity to fit all your data.
After connecting the external hard drive to your computer
click the Start menu in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Then choose Control Panel, and select the "Backup and Restore" option.
If this is the first time you have run a backup
you may have to configure your backup.
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete a backup
of all of your data and files.
Once you've performed the backup, before you continue
you must connect your Samsung PC to the Internet
either wired or wireless, though a wired connection is preferred.
Also, it's a good idea to update your PC's applications and drivers.
Finally, before you begin the installation
it is very important that you connect your PC to its AC power source.
Now insert your Windows 8 installation DVD into the CD drive on your PC.
When the disk contents pop up in Autorun, double-click the Setup.exe file.
If the disk does not auto run
click the Start menu in the bottom left corner of your screen.
Then click the Computer, and double-click the DVD option.
Once you launch the setup, the Windows 8 setup will load
and prepare your PC for the upgrade.
Once fully prepared, be sure to select the
"Go online to install updates now" option.
This is important, as it will install important updates required
to install and use Windows 8.
Now click Next.
On the Product Key screen, enter the 25-character unique product key
included in your Windows 8 DVD package.
Then click Next. Read through the license agreement and terms
then select "I accept the license terms", and click Accept.
The next screen is where you will choose the installation option you want.
You can keep personal files only, choose to keep nothing
which would wipe all of your current files during the install
or you can keep your Windows settings, personal files, and apps.
The "Keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps" option
is only available if you are installing the same language
and same 32-bit or 64-bit operating system as your current Windows 7 OS.
We will choose to keep Windows settings
personal files, and apps during the install.
By choosing this option, we will keep most
of our Windows 7 customization options
such as the desktop background, Internet Explorer favorites
documents, and more.
When ready, click Next to continue.
When choosing the "Keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps" option
your system will check your Windows 7 PC
for incompatible Windows 8 drivers and applications.
A list of incompatible drivers will populate.
If no incompatible drivers appear, simply choose Install to continue.
If a list appears, before you can proceed
you must remove all incompatible software and apps in the list
by clicking Uninstall, and removing each item individually.
When you're finished removing all incompatible software and apps
click the Restart option to reboot your computer
and continue with the Windows 8 install.
Please note, if during the restart the message
"Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." appears, DO NOT press any buttons.
The PC will continue to restart on its own.
Next choose the option, "Continue from where I left off"
and click Next to proceed.
If a security prompt appears, choose Yes to allow changes to your PC by Microsoft.
Once the Windows 8 setup screen is Ready to install
review your selections, which should read "Install Windows 8"
or "Install Windows 8 Pro" - depending on the version -
and "Keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps".
When you are ready, click the Install option to begin.
Your PC will reboot several times during the installation
which can take anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour.
You will not be able to perform any tasks during the installation.
Once the installation has finished, the Personalize screen will appear.
Here you can choose the color theme for your system.
This option can be changed later, too.
Click Next when you are ready.
You may be asked to connect to a Wi-Fi network.
You can choose "Connect to a wireless network later" to skip this
or choose your access point from the list
and enter the security password if needed.
Then click Connect.
Next, in the Settings screen, you can choose several options
like protect and update your PC, protect your privacy and your PC
send related information to Microsoft
to help improve Windows and apps, and more.
If you want to configure your settings personally, select Customize.
Here you can activate sharing between PCs
if you want to share between multiple devices
by selecting "Yes, turn on sharing and connect to devices".
Or you can choose to deactivate sharing between PCs by selecting
"No, don’t turn on sharing or connect to devices".
If you do not know what these options mean, we suggest
you select the "Use express settings" option on the previous page.
Finally, if you have a Microsoft account
you can sign in via your PC on this screen.
We will skip this option for now, by selecting Skip to sign in later.
Now the Windows 8 Start screen will appear
confirming that the installation is complete.
After you have completed the Windows 8 installation
we recommend that you download the Windows 8 SW update program
by opening Internet Explorer, and visiting
and clicking the hyperlink "Click here" within option number 3.
Click Save to download the file to your PC.
Then click Open to extract the setup files.
Double-click the SWM Setup file
and the program will begin to install on your PC.
It will search for device drivers and software programs required for your system.
Click Close once successfully installed.
Now you are ready to enjoy your newly updated Windows 8 PC.
