0:00:33:000,0:00:55:000 >> Jill Euken: My name is Jill Euken. I live
with my husband Randy on our family farm south of Atlantic, Iowa. Our family has been involved
in 4H for more than 80 years. My dad Fletcher Nichols started in 4H in the 1930s with his
first dairy animal. And he grew his dairy herd from that 4H project.
0:00:56:000,0:01:03:500 >> Fletcher Nichols: They had to get up and
milk cows before they went to school. One of the best training things we ever had.
0:01:07:500,0:01:36:500 >> Jill Euken: I continued 4H experiences
through some international programs. I took 18 high schoolers to Denmark for a summer.
Each of those students lived with Danish host families and learned about agriculture in
Denmark. I think that's a strong tradition of the 4H program is having international
experiences available to youth so that they can learn about the global context of agriculture.
0:01:38:000,0:03:00:000 >> I'm Jim Borel, I'm Executive Vice President
at DuPont and I have responsibility for agriculture and food ingredient businesses. I still remember
that crisp Fall day in 1965 when we brought home an angus steer that became my first 4H
project. And that began a journey of 8 years of 4H projects and opportunities, both in
the projects and the club experience that have meant a great deal to what I do today.
We have a huge challenge in the world we have 7 billion people this year, and growing to
9 or perhaps 10 by 2050. We have limited resources so the challenge of virtually doubling the
amount of food that we produce every year in that period of time is huge. We recently
announced an investment of 2 million dollars over a couple of years to help global 4H establish
leadership institutes in 5 African countries that will train adults that will work with
young people in those countries. And try to create and nurture the kind of experiences
for young people there that we've seen for the last century in the US. We're proud to
support 4H because young people and 4H today will be feeding the world tomorrow. So from
DuPont to the Euken family and 4H families around the world we say thank you. Thank you
for planning the seeds of the future.
0:03:02:000,0:03:14:500 >> Jill Euken: 4H will always be a big part
of our family. It's helped us learn and succeed. We're proud to be 4Hers, proud to be leaders
in agriculture and proud of the part we play in feeding the world.
