Laura: Hi, I'm Laura with HP. Andru: And I'm Andru Edwards from GearLive.
Larua: And today we're going to go over the new TouchSmart software 3.0.
We have the TouchSmart 300 series in front of us right now.
There's a lot of new applications so I'm going to go through and show you some of those right now.
Very easy way to get into it. You just slide your hand over this
little home button, and this will pull up our Touch application.
You'll notice that we have a few new partners here.
One of them is Netflix. Do you watch movies? Andru: Of course. I'm a Netflix member.
Laura: Excellent.
So with this you can actually stream videos
onto your computer. This becomes your TV essentially.
Very cool partnership with them.
We also have a partnership with Hulu. Do you know what Hulu is? Andru: Definitely.
TV shows
on your time.
Laura: We've also integrated Twitter. Andru: Yes we have and we're going to take a look at that right now because
I'm a big twitterholic. Twitter fan.
Alright, so here's Twitter.
I just tap on it to make it go full screen,
And I'm going to sign in
with my username and password,
and you can actually have a TouchSmart remember
your username and passwords so that you won't have to
always enter this. I'll tap login.
And here you see you basically have a full Twitter experience.
I can check the updates of my friends,
I can reply, I can update twitter myself from here,
see all my updates, search,
et cetera. It's actually
just as full as a Twitter website would be.
Laura: Next I'm going to show you Canvas.
Andru: Alright. What is Canvas?
Laura: Canvas essentially you can think of as a blank canvas. Andru: Right.
A freeform space for photos.
Laura: I like that. That's very good.
So what you can do here is you can actually create a collage of all your
pictures.
We'll pull up a list of our pictures here. It shows us
what we've got our files and then you can pick which ones you want.
Pull them out. We're going to pull out some flowers,
however many that you'd like to do.
And then you can rearrange these. You can make them larger, you can make them smaller,
you see that you can move them around,
and kind of create your own little collage with your pictures.
Alright there you go.
And then to save this all you have to do is you go to "Save collage to pictures library"
Push that. There it goes. Takes a snapshot, essentially, of your page,
and there's your collage.
A lot of people that buy the TouchSmart like to put it in their kitchen.
So, great to look at the internet, look up recipes. So now they've included this recipe
box. Great thing about this is you can actually find recipes on the internet
and it will pull them into the software.
We're going to do that right now. I'll show you how to do that. So you're just go browse for a recipe.
Click on that.
And then up here you just type in a recipe site. We'll go to myrecipes.com
Andru: So basically what you're doing is
showing that you're not limited to
the recipes that are already in the application. Laura: Exactly. They don't have pre-picked recipes for you.
You can go find your own.
You just click on the one that you want,
and then you click on Extract Recipe,
and it pulls it all into the software for you. Andru: So it actually sorted out the
ingredients versus the preparation.
Laura: Exactly.
Couple things you need to do is fill in the prep time, the cooking, the size - those
things you can do on your own, but you can see this has helped you with a lot of typing that
you won't have to do.
But that's not the coolest part.
Andru: What is cooler than that?
So the coolest part is that...you cook, you know this...
you're around in the kitchen, you're mixing stuff, you got stuff all over you.
Last thing you want to do is be touching your dirty fingers all over this TouchScreen, right?
Andru: No. Not at all. You don't want to do that.
Laura: So this is actually voice activated.
Voice activated software that will tell you the recipe. Andru: Okay, show us what you mean.
Laura: So let's go. Andru: Dirty hands, chicken, stew...
Laura: Flour... Andru: Beef, whatever...
We click on Enable Speech Commands
Say, "Beginning" Andru: "Beginning"
Computer: 8 ounces, uncooked spaghetti.
Andru: Okay, so what it just did was read the first ingredient
of the recipe. Larua: Exactly, so now we want to go to the next ingredient so what we're gonna
want to say now is "move" Andru: "Move"
Computer: 12 ounces peeled and deveined medium shrimp.
Laura: Very cool, so you can see another great thing and another great way to
use this actually is that you can have a bluetooth. So instead of having so say it out loud
and everyone hearing it out loud you can actually have it in your ear
and be walking around the kitchen and be talking to your recipe back and forth.
Andru: I see, so you can have the bluetooth headset in your ear, connect wirelessly as you walk around,
again, not having to get your hands dirty
on the computer or on your headset.
Laura: Exactly. Andru: Very nice.
Laura: Very nice.
So that's it for recipe box.
And that just shows you a couple of the applications on the new
TouchSmart 3.0 series.
My name is Laura Cheney. Andru: And I'm Andru Edwards.
