Today, three generations will play the 'bhapang' for you.
I hope you will like it.
This is the new thinking
who will carry this music forward for the next 50-60 years.
I resigned from a government's job
I used to work with the Rajasthan government's tourism section
and now I will show what this music is doing for the children.
and now I will show what this music is doing for the children.
We are from Eastern Rajasthan
We are a musician family from Mewat area
Our caste is "Mew" (pronounced 'Mayv') and we perform there.
To sing about Mewati people and folk tales is the main theme in our music.
My father was Mr. Zahoor Khan Mewati, who was given the
President's Award for his creation of this musical instrument called 'bhapang'.
This is a bhapang and my father played
this instrument in the song 'De Daata Ke Naam' in a famous Indian movie 'Aankhen'.
So, we have come from there to perform before you.
Our tribe is know for something very special.
We are Muslim musicians but we play music during 'Shivraatri' (a Hindu festival).
We sing tales of Shiva all night.
Today, along the lines of the slogan of this conference 'Think Ahead'
Around 8-10 years ago, I also thought that
Rajasthan's folk music needs to 'think ahead'
and if we infuse it with new poetry, then
then we can create a new form of music with our traditional music.
This is what we are currently working on.
This is a bhapang...
It's name is made up of three letters
We'll sing those through music (BH-P-G)
