Hi guys and welcome. Today I'm comparing the Oppo N1 and the Nokia 1520. Both these devices
are pretty big and very powerful, so let's go.
So with the design and quality. The Oppo N1 has a full aluminium frame with a smooth ceramic
like body. This will give the Oppo a slightly rigid, weighty feel. Whereas the Nokia 1520
is has a polycarbonate frame with a strong plastic body.
Next up with the dimensions and weight. The Oppo N1 has a reasonable 9 mm thickness and
weighs a somewhat weighty 215 grams. This device is quite large and pretty heavy and
known to feel top heavy with one hand. The Nokia 1520 has a slightly thinner depth at
8.7mm and weighs 209 grams. Both these devices are a handful but from a phablet phone it
is expected. If we move on to the display now, we see that
both these devices have a full 1080p screen. The N1 holding a 5.9 inch display at 373ppi.
And the 1520 holding a 6 inch display @367ppi. Both these devices are very big with a fabulous
display in both. The N1 also has gorilla glass 3 whereas the Nokia only has version 2. They
are both resistant to scratches and light drops but with the N1 being up to 3 times
stronger, it is the better one. Next is the camera and video. The N1 has a
pretty decent 13 mega pixel camera with dual-led flash for greater photos in the dark. The
N1 only has a single camera but it is rotatable meaning that your front camera is the same
as the back. Despite it being a moving part it is very sturdy and can withstand over 100,000
rotations. So if you were to rotate it 40 times a day, it would last for almost 7 years.
This is the first smartphone to do this and it looks a pretty good first go. If we move
on to the Nokia now, we see it has a whopping 20 mega pixel camera on the rear also with
dual-led flash. This is way beyond many smartphones now a days and takes fantastic shots, both
day and night. The camera also records 1080p@ 30fps much like the Oppo N1. The Nokia has
a secondary camera at 1.2 mega pixels recording at a respectable 720p.
Now the memory and storage. The Oppo N1 has 2GB of RAM and comes in 16 & 32GB versions.
This is great for multitasking and shouldn't really slow down or crash easily. However
the storage isn't that great as you are not able to expand the memory. The Nokia 1520
also has 2GB of Ram and comes in a 32GB model which is expandable up to 64GB. So I'd say
the Nokia has the lead here although you can always use the cloud for storing data too.
With the chipset and CPU now. The Oppo N1 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chip and is
Quad-core @1.7GHz. Whereas the Nokia is slightly faster holding a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip
and is Quad-core clocked at 2.2GHz. Both these devices are extremely powerful and very fast.
And with the 2GB of RAM this is perfect for doing your heavy duty apps. Now
the features and accessories. Finally
the Battery, OS and most of all price! The Oppo N1 has a 3610mAh battery and is running
color OS, based on Android 4.2. It retails for about £380 for 16GB and £400 for 32GB.
The Nokia 1520 has a 3400mAh battery and is running the latest version of Windows phone
at the moment. It retails for £550 to £600 depending on the colour. In my opinion I think
the Nokia is slightly too expensive and should be priced closer towards the Oppo.
But which one of these devices is your favourite and why? Comment all your thoughts below.
