Hi, my name is Diogo Medina,
and I am a candidate for the position of Public Relations Officer for EMSA's 2012/2013 term.
Unfortunately I couldn't be at the GA in person,
so I hope you can get to know me a little bit better with this brief video presentation.
I am a 25 year old recently-graduated Medical Doctor from Lisbon, Portugal,
And I am very much in love with communication.
In fact, I've been working with a number of different medical organizations
in that specific area - communication.
Also, I'm taking my national exam in November,
which means that I will be a 100% available,
and very eager to start working for EMSA from that moment on.
During my time at the Lisbon Faculty of Medicine
I was involved with the local student committee,
AEFML, EMSA's largest Portuguese FMO,
of which I eventually became president in my last term.
During my time there,
I worked with a number of different student exchange [programs]
including EMSA's own Twinning Project.
I was also involved with the organization of the Teddy Bear Hospital
as well as the marketing for the Teddy Bear Hospital Book initiative.
Of course all of my experience is at an amateur level.
However, over the last 5 years I've worked a lot
and learnt a lot in many different areas, including:
poster design
magazine and booklet design
presentation design
website implementation and management
corporate image rebranding and implementation
and general audiovisual production
with experience in scripting, filming and editing video.
Just for fun, I suggest you check out my youtube channel
and watch the LipDub that I put together for my faculty,
or the promotional video for the Teddy Bear Hospital Book Project,
all of which were filmed and edited by me.
The way I see it, the the PRO's job is divided into 3 main areas:
the Management of Corporate Image,
the Management of EMSA's Communication Outlets,
and also Efforts to boost EMSA awareness at FMOs.
So, as for Corporate Image,
I would develop new templates for posters,
publications design or stationery whenever needed.
I would then create and spread a Corporate Identity Manual,
and of course watch over EMSA's stationery supply,
that is: head paper, envelopes, and business cards, etc.
Finally, I'd work in assuring all members of the EEB
easy access to easy and standardized document and presentation templates,
as well as help them comply with document formatting.
Regarding EMSA's communication outlets,
I intend on managing or co-managing the existing platforms:
the Website, the Wikipedia page, the Social networks pages and publications as well
(Euromeds, the Portfolio, and even Resolutions, Reports, Handbooks and Guidelines)
I'll make information on the website easy to access,
and keep it as up-to-date as possible.
And I'll also try to make it a bit more flexible and interactive,
so that we do not need to have a website and a blog,
because ideally EMSA should have one source of information: the website
and then multiple channels for replication of that original information,
like the social networks pages: twitter and facebook.
And I intend on creating EMSA's YouTube channel,
and also producing a set of 3 to 5 short videos
advertising EMSA's core activities, that would serve as short ads or teasers.
Last but not least, I intend on boosting EMSA awareness at FMOs
by building or updating an internal mailing list of the FMO's International Affairs
and Marketing and Publicity Departments,
so that we can send a brief semimonthly newsletter
targeted at individual, layman students, and not just "expert" FMO board members.
This newsletter would be, for example, a sneak preview into Euromeds,
with an easy to consume format,
like a short 2 minute video summary of the most important future activity reminders or recent developments.
I hope now you have a better understanding of who I am
and what my vision for my job as a PRO would be.
I can't wait to meet you all soon face to face, and I wish you all the best.
Adeus e até breve. [Goodbye, and see you soon.]
