Alright. So we are going to make jalapeno poppers. These are one of my most
favorite snacks ever. These are so good, especially when they're made
homemade. There's no chemicals or anything, it's just all natural, good
ingredients in here.
So I have a few things in here. Obviously, jalapeno peppers. We are going
to use cream cheese and any type of shredded cheese that you like. I'm
using a Mexican blend. It also works great with cheddar.
And for the breading, we're just going to use flour, a little bit of salt,
some seasonings right here, bread crumbs that you just buy in the store,
and milk. And we will have these made in no time.
Now, there's one additional, special ingredient that I have here and this
is gloves. Now, while you don't need to have the gloves, I do highly
recommend them. Because your fingers will burn, and they'll burn for a
really long time. And if you're me, you will scratch your eye or something
and then have hot peppers in your eye. Which is never any fun, ever.
So we will go ahead and start making our peppers. Now, we are going to
begin by taking an eight ounce package of cream cheese. And we're just
going to put this in the bowl and we're going to add about a cup or so of
the regular cheese. You don't have to measure too much. Now, if you happen
to have some bacon bits or something, you could add those in.
So we're just going just going to put this in our bowl here. Now, I let my
cream cheese soften to room temperature before I used it. Then I'm going to
put in my cheese. And we're just going to mix this up. And this will be our
filling for our jalapeno poppers.
Okay. So we've finished mixing up our cream cheese. We're just going to set
this to the side. And the next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to put on
my gloves again, because I will burn myself with peppers, hot peppers all
the time. You never really know how they're going to be.
So we are going to begin by simply prepping the peppers. We're going to
take off the end, like so. And then we're going to slice them down the
middle. Then we're going to take a spoon and we're going to take out the
seeds. Now, as you know with these peppers, that's where all the heat is.
So I guess if you like things really hot, you could leave some of those
seeds and some of that middle in.
We're going to fill these peppers with cheese right now. So we're simply
going to take one of these peppers. We're going to take a spoonful of this
cream cheese and just kind of lay it in here. And we're going to set this
to the side. You can see this is really easy to do.
And this recipe really makes, you can keep making these poppers until
you've run out of the cream cheese. I generally get about 30 or so off of a
batch on the smaller ones. Now, when the peppers are a little bit larger
they get, I get a little bit less.
Okay. So we're ready to go ahead and start breading our peppers here. Now,
I have flour, milk and bread crumbs right here. The first thing I need to
do is I need to season up the flour a little bit, to give it a little extra
flavor. So I'm putting a little bit of salt in here. I'm also going to use
a little bit of paprika. This will give me a nice bit of color. And I'm
going to use a little bit of chili powder. Now, if you have onion or garlic
power on hand, a little bit of this will also help. Alright? Then I'm just
going to stir this through. Alright.
So for these, the first thing I'm going to do is I'm going to first coat
them with flour, going to wait a couple of minutes and then I'm going to
coat them in bread crumbs. And then we'll go ahead and cook them. You want
to let each layer dry a little it before you cook them. This will ensure
that your breading actually stays on the popper, instead of the cheese
going everywhere. So we're first going to put them in milk, then flour, and
we're going to set them on the tray.
So we've breaded our jalapeno poppers in round one with our seasoned flour.
Now we're going to dip them into milk again and this time we're going to
bread them with a bread crumb coating. This is going to make a nice, solid
coating that won't come off. Now, if you really wanted to, at this point
you could take these and freeze them, just like this. And then you could go
ahead and cook them up whenever you're ready. Or you could freeze them
after you've fried them and simply heat them up in the over whenever you're
ready as well. So these are a great thing to make in a large batch.
Okay. So now, we're going to go ahead and cook our jalapeno poppers. I have
a grease fryer right here. It's set at 350. Now, I'm just using regular
vegetable oil. I don't think it really matters what you use. I mean, you
can use Crisco, vegetable oil, whatever you like. Just make sure it's about
350 degrees. I'm going to load up a couple of these. I'm going to put them
in the fryer and we're going to cook them until the crust is nice and
golden brown.
And that's it. We're going to have some wonderful jalapeno poppers in just
a couple of moments. So we've just made our own jalapeno poppers.
