I am proud to welcome another high school student, Berenice Rodriguez. Please give her a big round of applause.
Good morning. First I want to thank all of you for being here. Your presence shows that this is important to you.
When I was little I crossed the border line with my mother, holding her hand.
I didn't know what we were doing, only that here my dreams would come true, and that's what I wanted, for my dreams to come true.
I've grown up here my whole life. I consider this my home. And this is where my dreams started.
I won a scholarship that will pay for high school tuition and any college that I want.
I want to go to college, because education is a human right. It is something that cannot be taken away
If this law, HB 87 is approved, then I will be separated from my family. I will never be able to see them.
That should not happen because it is not right.
All my dreams and all my hard work will be thrown into the trash. And that is also not right, because I work day and night to make my dreams come true.
That is why I stand before you on this day and I say this cannot be allowed to happen.
It is unjust, but we have to be strong, and unite so we can win this fight.
We are not criminals. To seek a better life for ourselves and our families is not a crime. This is not right.
I am tired of being told that I am different. I am tired of seeing all my people fight very hard without seeing any progress.
It's time to make a difference. If you will look around you, you will see that you are not alone.
We have to be together and united to make our dreams come true.
I am undocumented. And I'm not ashamed, nor afraid.
You also must not be afraid. We are going to fight to the end.
¡Sí se puede!
