Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. I'm going to show you how to quickly create
this logo design
inspired by Louisiana's Creole and Cajun music
known as "Zydeco". I included this concrete texture for you to download, so
you can follow along.
The link is located in the video description or project files.
Its size is 1000 by 1000 pixels
with a resolution of 150 pixels per inch.
Click on the New Layer icon to make a new layer.
We'll fill it with White. If your foreground and background colors
aren't black and white respectively, press "D"
on your keyboard. Since White is the background color,
press Ctrl + Delete if you're using Windows
or Cmd + Delete if you're using a Mac. Open the Horizontal Type Tool
and choose a font. I'm using
"Carnivalee Freakshow", which you can download
at www.dafont.com. I'll use a point size of
89... Sharp... Center Alignment...
and the color is Black. Type out your text.
To adjust the "kerning", which is the space between the characters,
click your cursor between those characters you want to kern
and press and hold Alt or Option
as you press the left arrow key on your keyboard.
If you want to move the lines of text closer,
highlight the line you want to move and go to Window
and Character. The Character panel will
open. Slide the Baseline Shift icon
to the right. Click on the thumbnail
of the top layer and click on the "fx" icon.
Choose Stroke and click on the color box.
Pick White and click OK.
Make the size: 14 pixels,
the Position is outside and the Blend Mode is Normal.
Then click OK. Close the Character panel
and click off the eyeball of the text
to temporarily hide it. Click on the thumbnail
of Layer 1 to make it active and open your
Polygon Tool. Choose Shape.
If you're working on CS5 or earlier,
your Shape to is here. Click on the Fill box
and pick Black. Click on the Stroke box
and click on the "No Color" icon. Type in
50 for the sides and check Align
Edges. Click on the gear icon and check
Star. Indent the sides by 60%.
Go to the center and drag out the shape.
To re-position it, press and hold the "Space" bar
as you move it. When it's positioned, release the space bar
to continue to adjust its size. Go to Filter,
Distort and ZigZag. When you see this window,
click OK to rasterize the shape. Make the Style
"Around Center"... the Amount: 7,
and the Ridges: 3. Then, click OK.
Open your Custom Shape Tool
and open the Shape window. If you don't see this heart shape,
open your list of Shape Presets and choose
"Shapes". Then, click OK . Click on the heart
thumbnail and click on the gear icon.
Tick Define Proportions and check
"From Center". Type in 10 points for the Stroke amount
click on the Stroke box and click on White
for the Stroke color. Go to the center
and drag out the shape approximately this much.
Then, release. Notice the heart "Fill"
is black and its "Stroke" is white with a thickness of 10 points.
Make your text visible and active.
We'll center all of the elements on your document. To do this,
Shift-click on the bottom shape to highlight all the elements.
Then, click on your Move Tool and press Ctrl
or Cmd + A. Click on the Align Horizontal Centers icon
and the Align Vertical Centers icon.
Delete the selection by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + D.
I'd like to slide the heart down a little,
so I'll click on the thumbnail of the heart shape layer to make just this layer
active and press the Down arrow key on my keyboard
until the heart is optically centured on the curvy, star burst beneath it.
Next, we'll angle and skew our text.
Make your text layer active and press Ctrl
or Cmd + T open your Transform Tool.
Go to the middle of the side and press and hold
Ctrl + Shft + Alt on Windows or Cmd +
Shift + Option on a Mac as you drag it
up. Then, Press Enter or Return.
To finish our logo, we'll give it texture.
First, we'll place all of the elements, except the texture layer,
into a folder. To do this, Shift-click
on the white layer to highlight it and all the layers above it
and press Ctrl or Cmd + G.
Change the Blend Mode to "Soft Light".
To give it more contrast, make a copy of the folder,
by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + J.
