Cell phones aren’t medical devices, but because they give off low levels of radio
frequency or RF energy, they’re regulated by the FDA. Some people are concerned that
cell phone radiation will cause cancer or other serious health problems, but research
by scientists at the FDA and other organizations has not linked cell phones with any health
hazards. FDA’s concern regarding cell phones is that they could interfere with cardiac
pacemakers, defibrillators, and other medical devices, and keep them from working properly.
FDA scientists helped develop a test to measure interference from cell phones on implanted
cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators.
