President Park Geun-hye has nominated Saenuri Party lawmaker Lee Ju-young as the new minister
of oceans and fisheries. Lee, a four-time lawmaker, has served as the
chairman of the National Assembly's policy committee and is currently heading the ruling
party's Youido Institute. The presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae says
that Lee will be the right person to stabilize the oceans and fisheries ministry, with his
broad understanding of government affairs as a long-time lawmaker.
The nomination comes less than a week after the former oceans and fisheries minister,
Yoon Jin-sook, was sacked for making inappropriate comments about a recent oil spill in waters
off of Korea's southern coast.
