Hello my name is Kristine Belknap
and I'm doing a demo of the
3D Printer at Dr. Landsberger's lab
here at Cal. State L.A.
in keeping with the holiday spirit
what we're printing today, is a snowflake.
The 3D Printer is a
Bukobot from Deezmaker.
It's being controlled
by a Raspberry Pi running OctoPrint,
as you can see here.
It's gotten up to temperature, so it's ready to start printing.
The 3D Printer works by first making an outline,
then going through and filling it in,
It then repeats this process over and over again, building up the 3D object.
here are some examples of other objects made by the 3D printer.
As you can see the plastic that the 3D printer uses comes in different colors;
black, white,
sort of a clearish white, yellow, and blue.
There are also a wide variety of other colors, but here is just a sample.
Some of the printed objects include, a statue of a lion
a very tiny scale model of the Partheon from Greece
even a ship
there also this one, we call it half-a-pi, because it's the symbol for pi, but it's only half-way done.
we also have an iPhone case
and even a Lego
When the 3D printer is doing the middle layers,
because it's not a complete solid layer, it can go a lot faster.
And roughly two and a half (2.5) hours later,
we have our snowflake
