Hello everyone. Alexandre Boulerice.
I am the NDP MP for Rosemont--La Petite Patrie. I am also the Official Opposition Labour Critic.
It gives me great pleasure to speak to you and to wish
all CUPE activists a very happy 50th anniversary.
Speaking to CUPE delegates feels a little funny to me.
It's a bit like talking to my family
and I think that most of you know why.
We have a relationship. I worked for CUPE for many years
and I might work there again one day.
But there is also a relationship between the NDP and the entire Canadian labour movement,
in particular with the Canadian Union of Public Employees.
No surprise there... the New Democratic Party is a creation
of the working class, of workers' associations
and cooperatives. Obviously, we share some of the same goals:
improve working conditions, improve standards of living,
ensure we build a society where no one is left behind.
We share a lot of values: justice, respect, fairness,
women's equality, respect for minorities, the fight against all discrimination,
the redistribution of wealth so that
that everyone can live with dignity.
The NDP is here for you. We are here to represent your interests,
the workers' interests, the interests of people
who work both in the public and the private sectors.
We are here to
defend you, to share, to bring your ideas to Parliament,
to move the issues forward and to ensure that together we build
a better society. As Jack said, we will be able to
change the world.
So happy anniversary to the Canadian Union of Public Employees.
Good job, nice accomplishments, let's continue to move forward. Thank you !
