Hey guys, Kiera here, now today is actually a quite serious video. I've been struggling
a lot with doing this, because it just won't upload, so this is about the fourth time I'm
recording it. I had a different idea on how to do this, I've just had to find another
way of doing it, fortunately you just get to see my face. I'm sorry, it's just not working
and I'm not gonna bother with it. So this is a poem called we were the kids. And it's
written entirely by me, but it is an, I got an inspiration from To This Day, Which if
you haven't seen it, there will be a link in the description, and you should really
check it out, it's really good. But if the link doesn't work, just type in, to this day
and it's called to this day project. And it's really goos, It's animated, It's really good.
This is kind of like my response to it, and yeah. I hope you like it.We were the kids
who were called names, who feared school breaks, because that's when we would have to face
them...The kids who called us those names, who went home every day and came up with a
new list of names to hit us with, hoping that at least one would be a fatal blow. And when
one did and the teachers saw it hit, the kids would deny it, 'no, miss' 'wasn't us, miss'
'they're overreacting, miss'. The teachers not wanting a fight, just replied, 'alright,
I believe you' then they would turn to us and tell us 'Kids are cruel' 'Names can't
hurt you' and, their favourite 'Don't take it seriously'. When we tried not to take seriously,
we were hit again, and again, and again, until we fell. And, yes, not all of us got back
up, but the ones that did, were hit harder. But I have a question for you, if a kid is
forced to fall in a school and everyone tries to hide it, do they make a sound? Or do they
fade into the fading, yet ever present, echo of a record stuck on repeat? Some of you may
think 'why didn't you stand up to them?' The reason -- none of us were brave enough, and
the few who dared ask them 'Why do you beat me?' Were shot down with 'We aren't beating
you.' Because these people who, these were people who thought beatings were physical,
that you walked away with bruises and scars and broken bones. But who's to say that bruises
and scars and broken bones hurt more than bruised feelings and scarred childhood and
broken hearts? Because they all last longer, they cut us deeper, and they hurt more. They
can't be seen but they're there. And they matter. So, before you speak, think. Before
you tell that person who cuts themselves to 'get over it', or that person who's being
abused to not be so secretive or serious, before you tell that anorexic to 'stop being
self absorbed' and 'to just eat something', just, think. Words can hurt. Do you want to
make them fall? Do you want to keep hitting them until they give in? Until they stop trying
to get back up? Okay guys as i said its a pretty serious video, I've tried to upload
other ones and they're not uploading, I'm annoyed with it and I've walked away. I'm
gonna try and email it to Kath and then hopefully she'll upload them, I haven't done that yet,
so if she see's this before I've actually done it, then you know whats coming! I really
hope you liked this video. And i really hope that you'll go down into the description,
and you know just click on the link to this day, it's really good, its really like, Its
quite I don't know how to describe it but I just really love it and yeah and if you,
we do sketches they're supposed to be uploaded every week but that hasn't really happened
much cos I'm lazy and we haven't got any more. We still have one, I just haven't edited it,
And I have problems uploading it at the moment, so we need to sort something out. But there
should be some soon. Hopefully. Okay, see ya
