Sega exhibited the new "Border Break" arcade action game slated for release in 2009 at the AOU2009 Amusement Expo.
Border Break uses the network service ALL.Net and enables real-time competition between up to 20 players. The objective of the game is to achieve victory as a team as players operate a human shaped combat machine called the "Blast Runner" and coordinate their maneuvers with other players nationwide to attack, provide backup, protect, and restore.
Border Break is the first game to use the new Ringedge board,
and it was designed for the enjoyment of real battles between two teams of up to 10 players each.
The players can choose from four different types of robots such as a robot with heavy artillery systems
or a sniper robot and can customize those robots to their preferences for an enhanced game experience.
The objective of the battle is to destroy the "core" of the enemy base. The Blast Runner can be equipped with four types of weapons including assault weapons, heavy artillery weapons, sniper weapons, and backup support weapons, and players can change the weapons based on their own play style and the battle conditions.
Players can also interact with the other players during the game to coordinate strategic attacks. This interaction is made possible by a Chat Function using a touch panel screen.
