131: PRE-SYNOPSIS INTERVIEW JÚLIO AIRES
"So Júlio, present yourself."
My name is Júlio Aires. I came to O'Porto a few years ago
to study Fine Arts.
Meanwhile, I ended working very closely with Equipment Design
in several companies in that field.
Later, I attended the College of Fine Arts in O'Porto,
did a little bit of illustration, always connected with Design.
Four years ago, I started doing my first photographic experiences,
and have been doing work almost exclusively related to photography,
essentially about the city of O'Porto, but also
on a few occasional trips through the country, where I usually photograph.
This project emerged from the development of several other
previous photographic projects that we have been having
with two close friends of mine, Ricardo Pereira and Mizé,
with whom I have been developing a few photographic projects.
The opportunity came with the visit
to one of the greatest shipyards in Portugal, currently abandoned,
that is the S.Jacinto Shipyard, and, somehow,
do an in depth work of the architecture of the place and its current situation,
that reflects, in someway, the current economic status of the country.
In a certain way, is a more pondered intervention,
regarding relations of that kind.
The photography I make is very minimalist.
I usually photograph in black and white because I believe that, in someway,
by reducing the visual elements in the image, I can transmit in a better way
what I feel in relation to the image and to photography.
This project was interesting because of the collaboration with other people
In this sort of things, one can always learn a lot...
...from different kinds of visions from other interveners.
It was a very pleasing project for me to do,
and specially in one of the areas where we have been working harder.
We enjoyed a lot...
And it was very interesting to participate!
