Russ Cam!
Hi. I'm Bjoern, and you're watching Russ Cam!
Here we go!
Well, guys, here we are at the end of the conference and we have a TV winner. How about
that!
Yeah, congratulations!
574...yay!
[APPLAUSE]
Verifying...congratulations!
You are a user of Wijmo, correct?
We are.
Alright, Bryan, why don't you say your name and a little bit about yourself.
Yeah. My name is Bryan Gregorius and I work for Apprenda. And we use ComponentOne Wijmo
components in our UIs.
I'm Chris Bannon, the Product Manager for Wijmo and other web products at ComponentOne.
I remember the name. Apprenda is actually one of the logos we have on our homepage.
We know you guys are a good customer of ours and we know you're doing cool stuff. So could
you tell us a little bit about Apprenda, what you do, and then of course how you're using
Wijmo.
We're a application deployment/management system. The platform is a service to deploy
anywhere - on Azure, AWS, local/private infrastructure. Our management UIs that we have we use the
Wijmo components mostly for data visualization through either bar charts, pie charts and
stuff like that for displaying utilization information. We've also done things like animated
graphs for showing usage over time of CPU memory and stuff like that so you can monitor
your applications as they run on our platform.
Very cool. So when you developed this management console, was Wijmo the first tool in there
or were you guys porting from something like Flash.
No, we had some - it was the first data visualization stuff that we had done. So we sort of shopped
around, the different stuff that was out there. And Wijmo was the one that we went with. It
saved us time. And I think it brought a lot of value into our product. We didn't have
a lot of visualization of anything in our UIs previously. It was all very table-based
and just blocks of information coming at you. So it wasn't really a good snapshot way of
looking at visualizing your data and seeing what was happening on your system. And so
those components really helped.
Great. And have you guys gotten any feedback since putting the charts in?
Yeah. The customers that we've shown it to and like prospects and everything, they think
it's great.
What was the very best feature that you liked about it?
Actually, the best features I think are the new ones that we have yet to be able to use,
so the JS support and the data binding that I was talking to you about yesterday. And
I'm really looking forward to using those.
Well now you're positioned, right, to go ahead and install those and take advantage of that.
Yeah.
Alright guys! Well, thanks a lot for being on Russ Cam!
Here we go!
I'm Bjoern Meyer. I'm VP of Product Management working with Text Control. We are doing rich
text box controls for .NET.
Well what exactly is that? So someone comes and they say, "I've got to have Word in my
app?"
What we say - think of a rich text box on steroids!
Oh, okay.
It's like a programmable MS Word. And you can integrate that directly into your application
for .NET, Windows Phone, WPF or ASP.NET.
Very analogous to Spread controls that GrapeCity has to offer.
Absolutely. It's a perfect combination. What we do for Word, Spread is doing that for Excel.
So it's a perfect combination. We just showed our new version 18, CTP version, we just released
that last week.
Oh really?
It's a nice demo with our new features. Everything that comes with version 18 in August, including
very nice technology to import PDF documents which is a very nice technology. You can import
documents and modify them. So that's pretty cool. And we are very excited about it.
You can't do that in Word, can you? You can't import a PDF.
You can't really import it in Word, no.
You can export, but you can't import.
You can export. Yes. But you can't import or modify. Usually you need Illustrator to
do that. But in this case, you have an API and you can do it programatically. That's
pretty cool.
I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to do that!
Oh yeah!
I didn't know that you did that! That's awesome!
You will get a license for free.
Oh yeah? You'll hook me up?
[LAUGHTER]
So basically, I can create a quick app, right, using your control. I can run that and then
open my PDF files.
Absolutely. Yes.
Oh, wow!
And you can control that using C#!
That's beautiful. So all of the event handlers are exposed and you can automate it, really,
any way you want.
Exactly.
That's beautiful.
Thanks for your time being on Russ Cam!
Thank you very much!
Here we go!
